THE ROLE: Project Officer – Championing Play Project

Save the Children is recruiting experienced Project Officer that will support with implementation of the “LEGO Foundation Championing Play project with Save the Children’s programme in Sierra Leone. The “LEGO Foundation Championing Play” project is an anticipated one-year project that seeks to support adolescent parents and caregivers to strengthen capacity to deliver quality play for their children; it will be funded by LEGO Foundation.

The Programme Officer will be responsible for implementation of all project activities, and will support the project manager in budget monitoring, report preparation, and other tasks as needed. The Project Officer will report to the Project Manager and will work in collaboration with all other programmes and departments as relevant. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS

  • Relevant Higher National Diploma or equivalent qualification, preferably relevant to the project.
  • At least three years of relevant experience, preferably in INGO setting

EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

  • Experience implementing projects or programmes or community development activities.
  • Good written and spoken English; including documentation and report-writing skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; able to engage positively with people at all levels.
  • Good training/facilitation skills.
  • Experience in working with NGOs, local Civil Society Organisations, etc.
  • Good skills in computer e.g. MS Word, MS Power Point and Excel.
  • Experience in implementing community-based activities in urban or rural areas. Experience in implementing programmes with or for children is an added advantage.
  • Experience in external relations with government, community stakeholders and civil society.
  • Experience developing activity budgets.
  • Willingness to promote gender equality and inclusion.
  • Ability to be self-sufficient and resourceful, proactive in identifying and addressing challenges, yet consulting and asking for assistance as needed/relevant.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to project communities and stay in basic conditions.
  • Willing to commit to Save the Children’s aims, values and principles.

CONTRACT LENGTH: 10 Months
