The growing prevalence of Type 2 diabetes linked to a growth in the number of people who are overweight or obese presents a major public policy challenge for England. Our ambition through the NHS Diabetes Programme, is to slow the future growth in the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes and reduce the rate of complications associated with all diabetes in England.

The Diabetes Programme Has a Number Of Key Objectives

  • Expand and enhance the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme to support those at risk of Type 2 diabetes.
  • Improve the achievement of NICE treatment targets and drive down variation in treatment for those with diabetes.
  • Improve the take up of structured education and implement digital structured education nationally for those with Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Deliver online self-management platforms for children and adults and rollout glucose monitoring and interoperability standards to make better use of technology to support people living with diabetes.

The programme provides both policy direction for the diabetes agenda and a delivery role in terms of national implementation of diabetes prevention and digital treatment services.

This post sits within the Diabetes prevention workstream with a particular focus to work with NHS England regional teams, and local health communities to coordinate and assure activities to implement the NHS Diabetes Prevention Programme.

  • Support teams to ensure that the portfolio of tasks/projects is planned, managed and delivered effectively.
  • Support and inform the targeting of resources, monitoring spends, implementation and evaluation of the tasks/projects by providing high quality support including complex information and analysis, communications and stakeholder management.
  • Ensure accurate and open communication and co-ordination with a range of organisations and individuals, researching and drafting correspondence and papers and ensuring the management of specific tasks, lead reporting and analysis across a range of specialties, functions and projects.
  • Be a key member of the team as well as supporting effective communication and stakeholder management, both internally and externally.
  • Support the development and delivery of a programme of events. This will include logistical tasks such as supporting at the venue, ensuring delivery is responsive to stakeholder needs and conducting post event evaluations. This will involve working with a range of internal teams and external partners.
  • Provides an oversight of workstream contractual arrangements within the team providing support where needed.
  • Communicate verbally as well as in appropriate written formats key information and reports to project teams, sponsors and a range of internal and external staff.
  • Stakeholder management, developing good working relationships with internal and external stakeholder’s and manging relationships as necessary.
  • Promote and support the effective use of data, information, knowledge transfer and technology to improve, inform and support projects, services, and initiatives.
