POSITION SUMMARY/ OBJECTIVE

The International Fund for Animal Welfare (IFAW) is filling the position of Project Manager, Ukraine Rescue. The overall purpose of this project is to address the immediate impacts and the after-effects of the War in Ukraine on pets, community animals and wildlife. We have successfully secured funding from a diversity of funding sources (restricted and unrestricted) to develop and implement a plan addressing the needs of animals in Ukraine and throughout the region for the Emergency and Recovery phases of the Ukraine War. To ensure the achievement of project outputs and impacts, the overall objective of the Project Manager, Ukraine Rescue, will be to manage project activities aiming to mitigate the effects of the war on animals and to create better welfare in the recovery phase. This will involve assisting in project strategising, planning and management with regards to financial coordination, communications and implementation of project activities. Such activities include, but are not limited to needs assessments, vetting grant proposals, on the ground response and recovery, training and capacity building, development of expert and animal rescue networks, legal/policy assistance and contribution to the development of guidance, tools and resources.

Reporting to IFAW’s Senior Program Officer, DRRR Europe, this position will work closely with local actors as well as with IFAW’s DRRR (Disaster Response & Risk Reduction) team and contractors. This position can be based in IFAW offices in Europe or closer to the point of implementation, with expected travels in Europe as needed, and is a 12-month contract (once renewable) commencing June 2022.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

•Oversees the entire project

•Manages all staff, consultant, and contractor hiring with IFAW HR

•Ensures all project deliverables are being met by IFAW staff, contractors, and/or partners

•Manages relationships with project stakeholders or partners

•Manages Operations Coordinator and Advocacy to ensure project deliverables are on track and within budget

•Conducts regular calls with Project Implementation Leads to ensure project is on track and address any challenges

•Schedules regular meetings with entire project team to hear updates and provide feedback or guidance

• Develops and shares regular project updates with Advisory Team, including per the reporting schedule noted in project plan

•Creates and manages project work plan (i.e. activity and task timeline)

•Oversees project budget to ensure it is on target and works closely with Finance Manager

•Liaises with funders (in coordination with IFAW Development) on anything related to the project (i.e. updates on project, any proposed changes to activities or budget, reporting, etc.)

•Reviews and sends all reports to funder or Development

•Ensures project staff are fulfilling project time tracking requirements and sends timesheet summaries to Finance Manager

•Approves all timesheets/expenses/invoices/grant awards and ensures they are sent to Finance Manager

•Liaise with Communications Lead to support the project communications plan

•Understands and follows grant compliance requirements related to project activities and implementation

•Provide further operational support as and when necessary to the Senior Program Officer, DRRR Europe;

•Embody the values, mission, and vision of IFAW at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

•MS/MA degree in animal husbandry, veterinary sciences, animal welfare, or related field preferred with disaster management-related course-work ideal;

•At least 3-5 years of project management experience in the field of disaster management, and/or animal welfare related. Experience working in (post) disaster theatres is required;

•Possess a strong network within disaster management, animal health and welfare related government authorities, international organizations and civil society in the sub-region of Ukraine. Field experience in the field of DRRR would be a plus;

•Possess strong knowledge of the nexus between disaster management and animal welfare. Good knowledge of what DRRR entails and who the key actors are that aim to prevent animal welfare issues and its consequent human wellbeing issues is highly desired;

•Proven ability to facilitate and manage multi-stakeholder processes and maintain constructive contact with stakeholders in the field of disaster management and/or animal welfare;

•Proven ability to communicate constructively with partners and funders and fulfil their reporting requirements;

•Proven experience assisting with grant management, budgeting, and grant reporting;

•Full working proficiency in English is required. Fluency in Ukrainian, French, German, and/or another Slavic language is a plus.

•Proven ability to work with diverse, multi-cultural teams;

•Ability to travel in Europe, as required.

•Ability to drive and should possess an international driver’s license.

•Have an EU nationality or work permit.
