Project Manager – Thomson Reuters Foundation

This is a 2-year fixed-term contract based in London.

For more than 35 years, we have promoted the highest standards in journalism by training reporters around the world to cover issues relevant to their local context, accurately and impartially. Today, we work to strengthen local and national journalism, improve media ethics, standards and regulation, combat misinformation, and explore and shape the future of the profession. We do this through newsroom consultancy, journalism training and mentoring, capacity-building, and via our funding of the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism at the University of Oxford.

We are seeking a highly-organised Project Manager to work on one of our most strategic projects. In this role, you’ll focus on our Media Freedom work and manage projects that have a specific emphasis on independent media across Europe. Ideally, you’ll have prior experience of managing complex projects, with a particular focus on driving programme quality and maintaining effective partnerships. Occasional travel may be required.

The Role

As a Project Manager at the Thomson Reuters Foundation, you will:

  • Manage a strategic project for the Foundation and occasionally other smaller complimentary initiatives that align.
  • Work closely with members of the Programmes Team and across the Foundation to ensure technical and/or business objectives are achieved.
  • Coordinate activities with project team members, internal functions (finance, comms, etc.), external consultants and partner organisations as required. These are likely to include media stakeholders based across Europe.
  • Identify, assess and manage risks to effectively inform and ensure the success and effective delivery of the project.
  • Estimate costs, timescales and resource requirements for the successful completion of a project within agreed scope and parameters.
  • Hold responsibility for financial oversight of allocated projects by working with Project Coordinators, partners and the Finance team.
  • Keep track of programme outputs and examples of impact, and both coordinate and contribute towards report writing and documenting programme learning.
  • Oversee the work and supports of Project Coordinators and consultants, as required.

The Person

As Project Manager for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, it’s likely you will have:

  • Demonstrable experience of managing a funded project that involves multiple stakeholders and ideally within an international development setting.
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work with changing priorities and time pressures.
  • An understanding of or an interest in journalism and media freedom, ideally with a focus on Eastern Europe.
  • A pro-active and problem-solving attitude, able to take on new or existing projects and drive quality and impact.
  • The ability to remotely manage projects and programmes effectively, which are globally located and/or managed remotely.
  • Excellent budget and financial management, including strong Excel skills.
  • Experience of working effectively on projects funded by corporate donors and funders. Familiarity with donor reporting requirements, including Monitoring and Evaluation.

Please note: completed applications must be submitted by 23:59 on Sunday 20th August 2022.
