Project Manager – Subsea & Terrestrial Optical Network deployment

The role of the EMEA Subsea Project Manager is to manage the service delivery for EF&I & Professional Services towards the Customer for multiple subsea & terrestrial projects. The Subsea Project Manager will be ultimately responsible for the successful delivery of all projects under their management within the EMEA region. Infinera EMEA customers consist of terrestrial, subsea, long haul regional carriers, metro providers and global ISPs.

Essential Functions And Key Responsibilities

  • The EMEA Subsea Project Manager is responsible for the following;
    • Development and implementation of a project plan for EF&I/Professional Service, maintain the Customer Action Register and the customer documentation package.
    • Execution of multiple projects, on-time, on budget, following industry practices
    • Validate site surveys, Nodal/Link acceptance documents & work with Systems design engineers
    • Manage customer expectations on implementations, interface with customer remotely and in person, manage support partners and implement best install practices and Quality Assurance standards.
    • Create, maintain and communicate risk assessments, action registers, issues logs, daily reports, communications plan, financial records, project tracker and internal statistical reports.
    • Host conference calls, present at customer meetings and create presentations.
    • Manage deployment teams in the field, both technically and with hands‐on approach – Enhance partner skills and work with Infinera partners to reduce costs and improve productivity and efficiency
    • Report to Service Delivery Manager
    • Support with RFP responses & customer quotes
    • General business acumen to support Service Delivery Team

Project Process Responsibilities

  • Actively participate and/or host customer and internal project meetings.
  • Technical site survey and validation: make site survey on representative sites together with customer representative. Create report, which defines the validation criteria.
  • Set up meeting and escalation procedure: create a document that describes all required meetings needed, including templates for meeting minutes. The document should also describe where documents are to be stored and who should approve.
  • Deliver detailed process charts and descriptions, which include input and output documents that need to be available.
  • Ensure that all Parties are working according to the same SOR (schedule of requirements), and escalate any deviation and discrepancy detected.
  • Implement process charts and process descriptions. Arrange and execute communication session for communicating the customer approved process chart and related documentation to all Subcontractor companies.
  • Implement the site/service acceptance process.
  • Implement document descriptions of each process and flow charts.
  • Prepare complete project organization charts, indicating which employees are parts of which organization.
  • Define a complete interface matrix for process communication purposes, describing the communication plan and distribution list.
  • Follow the Infinera Professional Services Guide
  • Implement Infinera Project Management tools.
  • Implement monthly, weekly and daily reporting practices (including reporting accuracy follow-up).
  • Manage customer expectations.

Quality Assurance Responsibilities

  • Support Infinera in finalizing the Project Quality Plan.
  • Audit subcontractor QA system, including site quality audits.
  • Do Partner Scoring after project completion and QBRs to ensure they maintain or improve their service delivery quality as expected to give customers the “Infinera Experience”.
  • Check resource/competence, including management capabilities and adequate technical personnel and reporting to Infinera.
  • Ensure Infinera is compliant to local and customer HSE requirements and the implementation thereof.
  • Work closely with EHS Officer and DPE to ensure Service Partners comply to Health and Safety policies, Best Install practices and Quality Assurance standards.
  • Follow-up corrective actions and report to Infinera.
  • Implement standard site checklist and database according to Infinera and Customer requirements.
  • Implement a quality control reporting system (including checklists) using Infinera PM Tools.
  • Project Planning.
  • Perform Risk Analysis and update Risk Log.
  • Implement criteria from project plan including processes, organization and Interfaces, time schedules, contract Metrics and Risk analysis.
  • Review subcontract metrics KPI and implement the procedure for follow-up reporting, KPIs should automatically be extracted from Infinera PM tool reports.
  • Request CSAT feedback after the completion of a project.

Project Mobilization Responsibilities

  • Review/Implement project plan of work.
  • Provide relevant guidance to subcontractors to use site and project documents.
  • Instruct and mentor subcontractors regarding documentation requirements and procedures. Establish clear well-understood and followed process for documentation and specification changes.
  • Coordinate documentation requirements with Customer. All document templates must be agreed with the Project management.

Experience & Essential Skills

  • English (Written, oral) essential
  • Budgets/business/financial knowledge
  • Microsoft Office proficient
  • Microsoft Project proficient – Plan creation, development and control
  • Experience in Subsea projects, either as a Project/Program Manager or Field Engineer
  • Communications Skills – Reporting to VP/CEO level
  • Project Planning / Managing, methodical thinking.
  • Deployment experience – To include hands on installation or commissioning
  • Quality standards and Audits
  • Site infrastructure knowledge
  • Data center connectivity knowledge
  • Being a team player is paramount

Desirable Skills

  • PMP certification
  • Prince 2 practitioner certification (must be current)
  • Agile practitioner
  • DWDM/SDH in depth knowledge
  • SAP experience
  • SharePoint 365
  • 5+ years project management experience in SDH/DWDM/Metro networks
  • Educated to HND/BTEC level
