Project Manager in Jerusalem ISR/PSE program (m/f/d)

We are looking for a Project Manager based in our Jerusalem office, late March/early April 2024.

Who we are
forumZFD supports people involved in violent conflicts on the path to peace and strives to help overcome war and violence. forumZFD is an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO), established in 1996. We are working in the field of conflict transformation in Europe, the Middle East, and South-East Asia.

Located in Jerusalem, forumZFD’s regional office works on projects in both Israel and Palestine since 1999. We work through partnerships with local civil society including NGOs, grassroots organizations, students, junior journalists, youth and women groups, community leaders, activists, and artists. Together we implement projects and events where the impact concentrates in the areas of peace education, art and media for social change, and narrative shift & advocacy. With our partners we are committed to a shared concept that cultivates into a dynamic cooperation. In our efforts, forumZFD Jerusalem strives for a holistic approach where inclusion and diversity is promoted.

forumZFD is recognized by the German federal government as a member of the Civil Peace Service (CPS) consortium. It finances its work through public and private grants, donations, and membership fees.

Your tasks and responsibilities
The Project Manager will support identified partner organizations, local communities, authorities, and key actors, in tandem with a project officer, with the purpose to contribute to their non-violent conflict transformation initiatives. For example, by initiating and strengthening dialogue processes as well as capacity development measures. The Project Manager will bring along demonstrable peacebuilding and conflict transformation skills within a complex and dynamic context.

Planning, implementation, impact monitoring, and financial controlling of project activities belong to the project manager’s responsibilities. Additionally, in this role you will contribute to the strengthening of skills and behavioral competencies, as related to conflict transformation and peacebuilding. These actions are realized by enabling safe spaces for dialogue and peaceful coexistence.

You work will be aligned with best practices, organizational policies, and donor requirements, as well as adhering to the application of M&E methodologies.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in peace and conflict studies, international development, or other relevant fields;
  • Min. 4 years of professional experience in peacebuilding project implementation in a conflict or post conflict setting. Regional knowledge of the Israeli Palestinian context is an asset;
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the application of civil conflict transformation methods, such as all-party dialogue approaches, mediation, and nonviolent communication;
  • Track record in utilizing conflict sensitive methods, in particular on Do No Harm, project management, together with knowledge of PM&E methods and processes;
  • Experience in independent pro-active planning, and implementation of co-operation projects with activists, networks, movements and/or NGOs; working experience with traumatized communities is an asset;
  • Strong social competence, capacity for teamwork and ability to integrate quickly into daily project routine; strong ability to think strategically and conceptually;
  • Experience in designing and facilitating trainings, workshops and sharing skill building know-how involving diverse partners and stakeholders affected by violence/conflict;
  • Experience working in insecure environments and handling of security needs;
  • Good ability to work independently as well as in cooperation with team members;
  • Physical and psychological stability and intercultural sensitivity to work and live in a complex society and challenging context;
  • Fluent English language skills both spoken and written is expected. Arabic and/or Hebrew is an asset;
  • Valid driver’s license and at least 1 year of driving experience is expected.

Our offer
We offer an attractive position with responsibilities for a minimum of two years in a growing organization. We also offer participation in qualification and professional development courses (among others, at forumZFD’s Academy for Conflict Transformation), a project-based preparation, regular coaching and, where appropriate, participation in a language course. As the position is based on the German Development Aid Workers Act (EhfG) it is remunerated according to the provisions of this law, including reintegration assistance upon return. Working for forumZFD, you will be engaged within the innovative field of conflict transformation and peacebuilding through the contribution of your ideas and skills.

Start of assignment
Ideally, you are available to start working by mid-March/early April, 2024 (preparation courses, followed by regional work with the possible option of an extension).
