Job Summary

DESCRIPTION

Project Manager, Dangerous Goods (DG) Engagement responsible for internal vendor/customer management and regulatory compliance primarily around lithium battery testing. The UN created and other Nations adopted a regulation to test lithium batteries in a standardized, prescribed manner developing a uniform summary. These summaries, known within the industry, as Battery Test Summaries (BTS) must be available upon request to all shippers, carriers, buyers, sellers, consumers, or regulators within the supply chain of that product. This will create a chain of responsibility if any issue arises emanating from the product.

Amazon as a shipper of lithium battery products a BTS is required to be provided for millions of products which are listed at any one time on Amazon.com. These products, including some lithium battery powered Amazon non-inventory equipment, all have some type lithium batteries and are required to be accounted for through BTS collection, creation, and distribution. Amazon has built a basic framework to collect from vendors/sellers and distribute these requests throughout the downstream supply upon request. We work with our key industry trade associations and NGO’s to voice our position on the use of BTS’s and minimize the impact to the Company. Working with our SPX team to increase the vendor/seller coverage and quality of the BTS’s provided, while ensuring education on the need for lithium battery compliance and advance changes in the regulations.

A successful candidate will be required to have strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, and reporting experience. Ideally, they will have a background understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), which is similar in regards to the information and purpose of information collected in a BTS. Responsible for the coordination, cross functional collaboration with Amazon devices (and non-inventory lithium battery powered equipment/vehicles) and completion of project/program. Oversees all aspects of projects/program. Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors and summarizes progress of project/program. Prepares reports to Senior management regarding status of project/program.

Key job responsibilities

Work with the WW DG Engagement Senior Manager to continue to build the UN Manual of Tests (Chapter 38.3) adoption internally, BTS strategy for vendors/sellers and engage as an active member of key industry trade associations and NGO’s to ensure Amazon position on the collection and distribution of the BTS is communicated;

Be active in understanding the key personnel within Amazon who can provide the reporting and data logic needed to store, retain, report, monitor the BTS’s catalog;

Work with WW DG Engagement Senior Manager and Public Policy, coordinating to ensure Amazon DG message of safety in transportation, provide yearly priorities, and partnership on risk-based approaches to DG regulations is presented to appropriate levels of government and regulatory bodies;

Work with our SPX team to drive supplier education opportunities on lithium battery compliance and necessary communication updates on regulation updates. Cross functionally, drive internal engagement with Amazon tech (and non-inventory teams) for development to create and archive BTS’s as “best in class” for the industry segment;

Maintain and strengthen our global supplier relationships by establishing goodwill enabling collaboration in the decision-making process for safe transport of DG (specifically lithium batteries).

This position does not require domestic/international travel at this time.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 3+ years’ experience with customer / vendor management
  • 3+ years’ experience with a track record of project deliverables in the regulatory compliance space where improvement is measurable
  • 3+ years’ experience driving process improvement with technology
  • Experience with Excel, Tableau, Visio and other data management tools
  • Experience working in a cross-functional and international environment, to lead by influence and earn trust at all levels

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters of Business Administration (MBA) degree
  • Ability to manage both strategically and tactically in a high-energy, fast-paced environment
  • Ability to influence and inspire action in others, with or without a direct reporting line
  • 2+ years of experience interacting with industry trade organizations
  • Outstanding attention to detail, without losing sight of the big picture
  • Exceptional problem solving & analytical skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
