Project Engineering Intern

Job Overview:

The Project Engineering team is responsible for the verification and validation of hardware and software systems that emanate from early-stage companies and start-ups that In-Q-Tel has identified, evaluated, and invested in on behalf of our government customers.

On a daily basis, our engineers directly deal with both hardware and software such as cloud computing, data science, machine learning, geospatial analytic tools, video analytic products, large-scale data systems, multilingual translation tools, infrastructure, additive manufacturing, AR/VR systems, autonomous systems, supply chain solutions, cybersecurity, wireless communications, semiconductors, materials science, power and energy, space systems, and Human Machine Interfaces (HMI).

Ideal candidates want a broader view of technology across today’s software and hardware stack.

Responsibilities

• Applying systems thinking to effectively move technology from the commercial space to our government customers
• Review and evaluate portfolio companies’ products and/or services to ascertain whether it is functional and usable using systems engineering principles.
• Dig in, learn about, and develop prototypes to illustrate innovative possibilities to both colleagues and government customers.

Anticipated Projects:

• Assist in developing a value stream map to facilitate the quick adoption of technology into the government space.
• Design and implement tools and processes to streamline the verification and validation of software and hardware systems.
• Participate in the development of prototypes and integration initiatives.

Qualifications

• Interest in entrepreneurship and general awareness of technology trends in venture-backed startup companies.
• Candidate for a bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline
• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with employees at all levels in the organization.
• Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with peers and management.
