The main roles and responsibilities of Engineer are;

  • Ensure the implementation of Water and sanitation schemes as per approved design
  • Ensure the quality and quantity of material of water schemes as per desig for livestock and human
  • Impart training to the community for maintenance of water sources scheme/rehabiliated water sources

The Engineer will support SHF project with duration of 6-months and will be implemented in Bardhere district.

Key Duties:

  1. Assist project Manager in rehabilitation design and implementation of program
  2. Verification of the appropriate standard and quantity of materials used in water schemes.
  3. Ensuring rehabiliations of projects in accordance with standard protocols
  4. Providing training to community members on proper operation and maintenance of schemes
  5. Work in close cooperation with all key stakeholders including government authorities, community leaders, beneficiaries, partner organizations, and other providers.
  6. Ensure timely and efficient monitoring and evaluation of project activities
  7. Contribute to the development of water and sanitation schemes
  8. Assist in the design and implementation of other complementary rehabilitation interventions (including livelihoods).
  9. Conduct any other programming responsibility delegated by the supervisors
  10. Assist in the water trucking activities and ensure the standard guidelines are followed.

Staff Development

  1. Ensure capacity building of all team members on technical things
  2. As delegated by the supervisor liaise with M&E Officers to ensure sharing of lessons learned, tools and systems.

Person Specifications (Requirements):

  1. Diploma or graduation in Civil engineering
  2. At least 3-4 years experience in Water and Sanitation design and implementation.
  3. Fluent in English and Somali
  4. Social mobilization experience preferred
  5. NGO experience, including training and provision of technical support to partners/communities
  6. Flexibility; ability to work as a team in a multicultural context
  7. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  8. Strong team building and management skills
  9. Excellent English written and oral communication skills, knowledge of other local languages an asset
  10. Computer proficient in Microsoft office products, preferably have experience in MS Excel and or any other industry software.
  11. Willingness to spend 75% of time in the field
  12. Physically fit, able to hike to villages.
  13. Having report writing skills and communication skills.
