arche noVa e.V. – Initiative for People in Need is an independent non-profit and non-governmental organisation (NGO) from Germany working primarily in the field of humanitarian aid, rehabilitation/reconstruction and development. Our main focus is on water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), but we also implement project in the sectors of in Disaster Risk Reduction, Food Security and Livelihood in various contexts.

Currently, arche noVa has the opportunity to implement a 3.5-year multi-sectoral consortium project in Mali and Niger. The project covers the sectors WASH, livelihoods & food security, disaster risk reduction and conflict prevention and will be implemented by a consortium of 4 NGOs in the regions of Gao & Menaka, Mali and Tahoua, Niger and aims to improve the resilience of rural communities. arche noVa has the lead of this consortium and will implement project activities together with its local partner organisation in Mali, whereas activities in Niger will be carried out by another international NGO and its national partner organisation.

Project Coordinator Mali (m/f/d)

The overall responsibilities of the Project Coordinator include project management and financial / administrative management. The Project Coordinator is based in Bamako, with frequent visits to field locations if security allows.

Start: September 2022

Duration: 24 months contract with a 6 months probationary period and the possibility of extension

Responsibilities:

  • In close cooperation with the HoM, support the project team and partner organisation in project implementation:
    • Project content development with regards to WASH rehabilitation and Livelihood project intervention
    • Plan and follow-up on the project activities according to the proposal and target milestones
    • Establishment and updating of work plans, including monitoring and evaluation of the project at all stages
    • Checking of financial documents as well as the purchase procedure
    • Monitoring and controlling of budget; ensuring the proper utilization of funds
    • Drafting of accurate and timely project-related reports in line with AN and donor requirements
    • Coordination exchanges between project staff and staff of partner organisations on technical and programmatic issues
  • Organisation of regular meetings of all Consortium partners / exchange visits if possible
  • Set up and organisation of regular project meetings between AN project staff and local partner project staff
  • Design of training and capacity development sessions and modalities to train local partner organisations with regards to project content where suitable
  • Design of training and capacity development sessions and modalities to train project staff as well as staff of partner organisations with regards to cross-sectoral issues such as inclusion, gender, age, sustainability, climate change adaptation and mitigation as well as building capacity on managerial level where suitable in consultation and cooperation with HoM.
  • Coordinate and contribute actively to the proposal writing for identified funding opportunities in close collaboration with HoM and HQ, support the partner organisations in the development of project ideas

Requirements:

  • A College or University degree in Humanitarian/Development Studies, Economics, International Relations, Engineering or related
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience in international emergency and development project management
  • Work experience in the Sahel region
  • Fluency in French and German (written and oral)
  • Demonstrated experiences in project management and cooperation with local partner organisations
  • Proven administrative, financial and reporting skill
  • Knowledge of relevant donors with regards to funding and operation mechanisms especially on a country level (like BMZ, GFFO, ECHO, UN OCHA CBPF, UNDP, UNICEF)
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and networking capacities
  • Ability to work on establishing new organisational structures and procedures
  • Flexibility, ability to work under stress and capacity to meet tight deadlines

Nice to have:

  • Experience in WASH, basic infrastructure, livelihoods and/or rural development with a focus on community engagement, local capacity building and sustainability
  • Knowledge of English is of strong advantage
  • Awareness of the Mali humanitarian, development, security and political context
  • Work experiences in Mali
