Job Description

Job Title: Project Coordinator, HUB Program – (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia)

Supervisor: Africa HUB Director

Location: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

Status: Full time

Summary of Responsibilities: The Africa HUB Program is a consortium of three organizations whose goal is to ensure that African civil societies interact efficiently with institutional stakeholders in Africa and beyond in protection of human right, peace and stability in the Horn of Africa region. AFSC is the consortium lead. Under direct supervision of the Africa HUB Director, the project Coordinator is responsible for the overall coordination of activities of the program. S/he works collaboratively with other consortium partners and colleagues in AFSC across the region. The position holder will provide the technical direction to project staff and CSOs in areas of advocacy, networking, research and convenings. S/he will contribute to the Africa HUB strategy ensuring clarity working towards AFSC’s overall goals of just and sustainable peace, just responses to forces displacement and migration and mainstreaming of climate justice, gender justice and youth. Capacity building and monitoring of CSOs will be a key integrated component of the coordinator’s work. The Project coordinator will support the Africa HUB Director in coordinating with key stakeholders including CSO’s, AU, IGAD, Academia and Think Tanks.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Project Based

· Lead project management support to the Africa HUB and consortium partners from planning to execution of strategies and activities, to monitoring, evaluation and learning.

· Coordinate consortium partners at the subnational, national levels and regional levels.

· Coordinate CSO partners for structured engagement with policy spaces in Africa and beyond.

· Carry out regular trainings for CSO partners to strengthen their capacity to advocate and carry out follow up activities through visits, in-person technical support, and continuous needs assessment.

· Develop and implement with CSOs an outreach and advocacy engagement strategy to respond to issues affecting the peoples in the region.

· Articulate AFSC’s values and principles including its commitment to peace and nonviolent approaches to social justice and peacebuilding among various stakeholders (religious organisations, think tanks, CSOs, regional bodies, Governments, policy advisors among others) in the region.

· Support fundraising efforts for the Africa hub program in collaboration with other AFSC staff.

. In close collaboration with the Africa hub director, and jointly with CSO partners, conduct research, write analysis, briefs and reports and make presentations on HOA geopolitical dynamics before internal and external audiences.

. Continuously monitor and analyse trends and dynamics in the HOA region, and as necessary provide on-spot insight into emerging trends and alert consortium partners to significant impending issues.

· Work closely with the line manager to develop required tools to support implementation and review all technical indicators and revise definitions based on current standards and donor guidelines.

· Monitor program implementation progress, write reports in compliance with the cooperation agreement.

· Contribute to the Africa hub communication by synthesizing large volumes of data and technical analytical reports, translating them into products for consumption of diverse audiences.

. Represent The Africa Hub in meetings, conferences, and symposium whenever called upon and as necessary.

Administrative Oversight

· Provide oversight to the operations function for the Africa hub office including Finance, HR, Administration, Procurement, Logistics, Security, IT etc.

· Supervise the administration and finance staff based at the Africa HUB office in Addis Ababa.

· Provide regular and timely technical guidance and support to the Finance and administration officer or any other staff under his/her direct supervision, to effectively perform their duties.

· Any other duties as required by the line manager.

Qualifications and Attributes:

  • Minimum of a post graduate qualification in a relevant field of political science, economics, international relations/diplomacy, peace/ conflict studies or related field.
  • At least five years’ experience in conflict research, peacebuilding, and/or policy analysis. This should include knowledge of or experience using open-source information monitoring, research, and analysis tools.
  • Strong writing, presentation, and interpersonal skills required.
  • Ability to develop collegial and professional relationships with various stakeholder groups.
  • Excellent facilitation, leadership, communication, and networking skills.
  • Knowledge of contemporary policy dynamics and political developments in the Horn of Africa, and the peace and security institutional terrain in the region.

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • A desire to grow the program as well as grow personally through the work.
  • Ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
  • Capacity to work in a multicultural environment.

Assignment: This position will be offered on an initial two (2) year contract with possibility of renewal.

This position is open to Ethiopia nationals only.
