  • Full time contract for 12 months
  • Based in Suva, Fiji

The Program

The Fiji Program Support Facility (the Facility) was established in 2017 to support and implement Australia’s aid programs such as health, education, emergency preparedness and response and governance in Fiji. The Facility also supports the Australia Awards in Fiji and Tuvalu. The Facility integrates cross-cutting themes, including gender equality, disability and social inclusion, climate change and Disaster Risk Reduction, across sectoral programs. In particular, the Facility seeks to strengthen program outcomes by better addressing the needs of targeted beneficiaries including those who are often marginalised.

Australia’s support to Fiji’s Health Sector (referred to as the “Fiji Health Program” or FHP) works in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Medical Services (MHMS) to:

  1. Reform public health services to provide a population-based approach for disease and the climate crisis.
  2. Increase access to quality, safe and patient focused clinical services; and
  3. Drive efficient & effective management of the health system.

Digital and health information is a key priority for MHMS and FHP. In the MHMS Strategic Plan 2022-2025, one of the primary outcomes is to ‘Harness digital technologies to facilitate better health care for our patients.” This is also a key pillar of FHP’s work plan to “Enhance decision support through strengthened health information systems.”

Through the Digital and Health Information Project, FHP is addressing both the immediate and longer-term needs of MHMS, by focusing on strengthening the foundations of Fiji’s digital health program to improve health service delivery (modernising points-of-care) and health system strengthening (providing data for evidence-based forecasting, planning, decision-making and policy development).

A core focus of FHP’s support to MHMS is on strengthening national leadership of digital health. This includes working with MHMS to develop a Digital and Health Information Strategy, and instituting mechanisms within MHMS to effectively manage the multitude of digital projects and health information needs. Technical assistance is being provided on a wide range of issues with varying degrees of complexity, from minor system fixes, capacity development, resolution of major project and technical issues, support for management of major projects and system upgrades, and direct technical support for radiology/PACS and disease registries. The aim will be that by the end of 2024, MHMS and its hospitals have a well-functioning digital and health information system providing clinical data that is used to improve patient care.

The Project Coordinator will support the implementation of the Digital and Health Information Project. Reporting to the Project Manager (Digital and Health Information) and based in the Project Management Unit at MHMS, the Coordinator will prepare and implement action plans and provide technical and administrative support for digital health projects, particularly for medical imaging and supply chain management systems.

The Project Coordinator will perform various project management tasks, such as coordination, scheduling, risk management, information management, documentation, procurement services, and handling financial queries. To succeed in this role, the Project Coordinator should have excellent time management, stakeholder management and communication skills and be able to deliver results on deadlines.
