Background

The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) through its affiliate international NGO Global Programs for Research and Training (GP) is engaged in a project in Kenya, funded by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Under the direction of the Medical Epidemiologist, the Project Coordinator will work on COVID surveillance project. The purpose of the project is to provide important surveillance information on overall co-morbidities of COVID infected persons, with special focus on COVID-HIV co-morbidity. The main outcome is understanding and guiding MOH programs to reduce hospitalization and improve outcomes of HIV-infected persons who are also infected with COVID. The study will occur in 3 counties at selected hospitals. This position will be based in Nairobi with frequent travel to study sites.

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development of project tools and other related materials.
  • Coordinate all training related to the project in conjunction with other stakeholders.
  • Oversee the logistics of site sensitization and preparation for project-related activities.
  • Work with the MOH, CDC and IPs to ensure that the technical requirements for the project are met.
  • Conduct routine visits to assess the logistics and technical progress of the work.
  • Assist in coordination of all aspects of collection of data including regular quality assurance checks.
  • Work with the MOH and its partners to oversee the quality of data collection and manage data with secure backup.
  • Participate in routine meetings with MOH, CDC and UCSF to provide updates project progress, matters arising and receive feedback from routine data analysis.
  • Coordinate communication between collaborating organizations.
  • Participate in data analysis, visualization, interpretation, report writing, and results dissemination.
  • Be open to new tasks throughout the project period and available to respond to technical, logistical and other needs that may arise.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in a social science or health‐related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years post-graduation experience collecting quantitative data for health-related surveys.
  • Demonstrated experience in collecting quantitative or qualitative among vulnerable or hard to reach populations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of public health issues, specifically regarding HIV/AIDS
  • Experience in using electronic data collection gadgets
  • Strong Interpersonal skills and ability to work well in diverse team
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time
  • Fluent in both Kiswahili and English
