Costain are recruiting for a Project Carbon Manager to join our Water Sector.

About The Role

Working with our complex delivery projects to ensure they are set-up to quantify (baseline), monitor and reduce the carbon emissions in line with our Climate Change Action Plan. This is a unique position which will allow the position holder to have significant influence over the sustainability and carbon footprint of our solutions working across a range of teams, sectors and clients. This position is based remotely with nationwide travel required.

Key Responsibilities

Provide technical carbon support to operations and SHE staff to enable the production and implementation of carbon management plans, which will include accurate baselining, monitoring and reduction of strategies across scopes 1,2 and 3

Ensure projects are set-up to succeed regarding carbon management and reduction, and responsibilities are clear across disciplines and the supply chain in accordance with PAS2080

Assist in establishing Costain as a carbon leader in complex delivery and play a key role in helping to meet Costain’s Climate Change Action Plan targets

Understand and promote the Costain Climate Change Action Plan to ensure it is understood and assist in enabling its implementation across all disciplines and sectors

Work with supporting functions such as design, commercial, procurement, BIM and estimating to simplify carbon data management and reduction

Assist in the preparation and implementation of environmental/ carbon workshops and training courses and ensure that staff, clients, and suppliers (including designers) with specific responsibilities have received the appropriate training

Work with Costain’s advisory/ consultancy staff to ensure best practice and performance can be promoted to wider clients.

Assist in producing environmental and carbon performance data performance reports, to feed into SHE Dashboards

Work with the SHE WLT to support external environment accreditations (PAS2080, ISO14001:2015 etc)

About You

Strong influencing skills and ability to build relationships with senior internal staff, clients and the supply chain.

Professional, confident with strong project management capabilities.

Strong data, research and analytical skills using excel, Power BI, LCA software etc.

Knowledge of infrastructure clients carbon targets and tools, and how to exceed their expectations.

Experience of complex delivery projects and the relationships between client, designer and contractor.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills and comfortable presenting at conferences and events.

The ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.

A passion for the environment and sustainability.

Able to work remotely and travel including occasionally overnight stays, when required.

Full driving licence

Qualifications:

Degree in sustainability/ carbon/ climate change or built environment subject or similar

PIEMA or equivalent

Relevant industry experience, including management and leadership experience
