International Organization for Migration

Under the overall supervision of the Director, Coordination Office for the Mediterranean and Chief of Mission in Italy and Malta and the direct supervision of the Programme Manager – Immigration and Border Governance (IBG), the incumbent will be responsible for supporting the Programme Manager and the Area Coordinators with the implementation of data collection and analysis activities under the MED.E.A. project.​

Core Functions / Responsibilities:

  • ​Assist with project implementation, particularly with the data collection and analysis component for monitoring, reporting and communication purposes;
  • ​Develop or update customized data collection and information tools for Cultural Mediators and other staff deployed on the ground;
  • ​Organize and follow up on periodical (daily, weekly and monthly) data collection and information at the field level;
  • ​Provide guidance and develop training for Cultural Mediators on data collection tools and processes;
  • ​Receive feedback from Cultural Mediators and other staff deployed in the field on data and information collection tools and suggest further adjustments/improvements;
  • ​Provide periodically and on need-basis data analysis through dashboards, graphics and tables;
  • ​Contribute to reports, briefs and presentations delivery for internal and external purposes;
  • ​Coordinate with relevant organizational units and partners for data collection processes;
  • ​Respond to more complex information requests and inquiries; set up and maintain files/records;
  • ​Follow up on administrative and financial aspects related to the project implementation;
  • ​Performs other duties as assigned.​

Required Qualifications and Experience:

Education

  • ​​Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Social Sciences, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematical, or a related field from an accredited academic institutions with at least three years of experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management, or related area; or
  • ​High School Degree with five years of experience in data science, data analytics, applied mathematics, information management, or related area;
  • ​Relevant ongoing or completed PhD or Master’s degree is a strong advantage.

Experience

  • ​​​​At least 3 years of relevant work experience in applied data analytics using R/Python , PowerBI or similar tools;
  • ​Demonstrated experience in design of data visualizations (dashboards and static graphs/data visuals);
  • ​Experience in use of statistical methods, Statistical Programming Languages and Tools for data management and analysis of large datasets with a strong focus on foresight/forecast/nowcast​;
  • Experience in statistical and forecasting modelling using R or pything, Power Bi or similar tools;
  • Experience with international organizations, EU Agencies and/or Italian authorities responsible for migration and border management, is an advantage;
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups, is an advantage.

Skills

  • ​Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills;
  • ​Strong interpersonal and communication skills in a multi-cultural setting;
  • ​Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment and office software packages;
  • ​Knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems.​

Languages

  • Fluency in Italia​n​ and English is required (oral and written);
  • Any other languages relevant to the project will be an advantage.
