Overview of position:

  • Under the overall supervision of the Reconstruction Manager & the direct supervision of the Field Engineer in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia, the successful candidate will assist in the organization of various site visits in the different communities & villages in Chuuk state in support of all activities planned under the Typhoon Wutip Reconstruction Project, contributing to the timely implementation of project activities.

Role objectives:

  • Prepare travel plans, in close coordination with the Field Engineers (FEs), the intended community to visit about the schedule trips & sites to visit.
  • Coordinate with the relevant department or offices for transportation, boat arrangements prior to the schedule site visit, coordinate with the staff security unit & local enforcement office (police) if security is needed in high risk areas.
  • Coordinate, schedule appointments, meetings with the village’s chief, municipal mayor, other community key persons, act as a liaison, translator for the FE’s during site visits & project implementation.
  • Help to monitor work is being carried out safely, efficiently & in line with our clients standards.
  • Communicate in a timely manner to the FEs & the Head of Sub Office any potential obstacles or issues that would impede the program activities.
  • Prepare documentation, reports as needed, report on the status of all missions, field teams & current state of the work as requested.
  • Strictly adhere to our clients policies, procedures including prevention of sexual exploitation & abuse and promotion of a respectful work environment.
  • Undertake work related travel at the request & approval of the COM.
  • Other duties as assigned & needed to support the program objectives.

Project reporting:

  • This role works under the overall supervision of the Reconstruction Manager & the direct supervision of the Field Engineer in Chuuk, Federated States of Micronesia.

Key competencies:

  • Bachelor’s Degree with 2 years of relevant work experience & / or Completed Secondary Education with 4 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience in humanitarian activities & community engagement is preferred.
  • Previous relevant experience in international organization or development organizations would be an advantage.
  • Experience in writing reports & documents is desirable.
  • Understanding of local community trends, cultural practices & traditions in an island setting.
  • Ability to interact effectively with individual & groups.
  • Excellent planning & organizational skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills, diligence, open mindedness & dedication.
  • Strong swimming skills.
  • Fluency in English (oral & written).
  • Working knowledge of Chuukese or any other Micronesian languages.

Team management:

  • This role has no team management responsibility.
