ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE

The International Organization for Migration (IOM) is the UN Migration Agency. With 173 member states it is committed to the principle that humane and orderly migration benefits migrants and society.     IOM’s Regional Office for the East and Horn of Africa supports and monitors the following countries: Burundi, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Somalia, South Sudan, Tanzania and Uganda. Through a team of specialists, the Regional Office supports the development, implementation, monitoring, reporting and evaluation of projects and initiatives undertaken by country offices and regional programmes.
    IOM Member States have called for IOM’s policy capacity to be strengthened, including in the recent MOPAN evaluation. The need for the Organization to be well-equipped in this area has been further increased by recent developments, not least the adoption of the 2030 Agenda and the Global Compact for Migration, IOM joining the UN system, and IOM’s new role as Coordinator and Secretariat of the UN Network on Migration (the Network).

Under the overall supervision of the Deputy Regional Director and direct supervision of the Senior Policy and Research Officer, the successful candidate will support the administrative and logistics aspect of a flagship report, “The State of Migration in East and Horn of Africa Report”, which aims to be a leading reference document on migration in the East and Horn of Africa Region with strong relevance to policy.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. Work on administrative and logistics aspect of the “The State of Migration in East and Horn of Africa Report”.
  2. Organize internal and external meetings such as authors’ follow up meetings, workshops/seminars/launching event of the report and other related dissemination events. As part of this, the candidate is expected to take minutes and assist in preparations of workshop reports.
  3. Interact with authors, editors, editorial advisors, reviewers, publishing company and other relevant stakeholders.
  4. Process of payments including honorarium for authors, reviewers and publication company.
  5. Undertake all other tasks as may be assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s degree or Bachelor’s degree with 1 year of experience in a relevant field.
  • Experience supporting teams with complex coordination tasks, including maintaining a calendar, taking succinct minutes, and coordinating deliverables against tight deadlines.
  • Experience working in a diverse, international, and fast-paced environment.
  • Desired, but not compulsory: experience supporting the development of complex publications.

LANGUAGES

Fluency in English and Kiswahili (oral and written).
