About the role

As Programme Officer your primary responsibilities will be to manage the Civil Rights Defenders Regional projects, which includes planning, executing, monitoring, and reporting project activities, following agreements with donors and Civil Rights Defenders standards and procedures.

You will coordinate strategies, activities, and core decisions in the project with senior staff of the Latin America department.

You will also identify, assess, and propose new activities and partnerships relevant for the local and regional context, monitor and analyse the human rights situation where the Latin America department works, as well as contribute to the advocacy work of Civil Rights Defenders.

You will report to the Senior Programme Officer at the Latin America Department in Bogotá.

The role offers great variety, including work tasks such as:

  • Organise the work related to trainings in human rights, security management and other activities for Civil Rights Defenders’ Regional project with partners
  • Organize and manage grants to Civil Rights Defenders’ partners for the Regional projects
  • Coordinate the activities within the Regional project with Senior Programme Officer and Department Director
  • Manage, evaluate and report on all aspect of the project to donors
  • Contribute and take initiatives in the continuous fundraising work of the Latin America department
  • Contribute with ideas and experiences related to the implementation of other projects within the Latin America department and Civil Rights Defenders in general.

To be suitable for this role you have, you have

  • at least 3 years of relevant working experience in Latin America;
  • advanced capacity to analyse and communicate the human rights context in Latin America in general and in Central America or Venezuela in particular;
  • high administrative skills when it comes to project management;
  • solid knowledge of project design and strategic planning;
  • advanced capacity to cooperate with individuals, organisations and state actors in complicated national and international settings;
  • experience in working with MS Office tools especially Word, Excel and Teams effectively, and
  • the capacity to work seamlessly in English and Spanish.

If you also have a Bachelor’s degree in Law, Political Science, Sociology, International Relations, Communication or similar, we believe you are the one we are looking for.

It is a merit if you have working experience in Central America or Venezuela; experience in working with International human rights mechanism, different aspects of security work and risk management, public advocacy, organising and conducting and human rights trainings and/or travelling to sensitive areas.

About the employment

This is a full-time permanent employment with 2 months probationary employment starting in August 2022 or according to agreement. As an organisation, we strive for diversity, and we see your background, experience and personality as a contribution to the organisation.
