Programme Officer, International Partnerships

Royal Academy of Engineering

We are looking for a Programme Officer to join Engineering X in our International Partnerships team.

Who are we?

The Royal Academy of Engineering is harnessing the power of engineering to build a sustainable society and an inclusive economy that works for everyone. In collaboration with our Fellows and partners, we’re growing talent and developing skills for the future, driving innovation and building global partnerships, and influencing policy and engaging the public. Together we’re working to tackle the greatest challenges of our age.

With a diverse workforce and an inclusive and supportive culture, we look to attract candidates from wide and different backgrounds who have a passion for the role engineering plays in society. Our aim is to make the Academy the best place to work for the staff we have and those we seek to attract.

The role

As Programme Officer, you will support the delivery of the Engineering Skills where they are Most Needed (ESMN) mission. ESMN helps to develop much needed engineering skills capacity, enhanced safety standards, and infrastructure that remains safe and fit for purpose in low-income and newly industrialised countries, with an emphasis on sub-Saharan Africa.

You will work with talented engineering researchers, educators, innovators, and policy makers all working to make the world a safer place. You will be responsible for managing the online grant process, supporting grant awardees and helping to communicate impact. You will support the programme’s community building goals, helping to develop a new safety skills community of practice, and building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders including international partners and awardees.

Prior knowledge of engineering education and safety skills is not essential, only the desire to learn and develop new knowledge on these interesting and highly relevant issues.

Who are we looking for?

You will be interested in international development and building relationships with international stakeholders working to solve global challenges.

You will have experience of grant management, project management, and engaging and building partnerships with international stakeholders to deliver programmes. You will have strong organisational, time management, analytical and communications skills, and previous experience with online grant management or similar systems.

Above all we are looking for a proactive and flexible team-player with the desire to learn new skills to help us make the world a safer and more sustainable place for all.

The team

This role sits within Engineering X, part of our International Partnerships team.

Engineering X is a £15m international collaboration founded by the Royal Academy of Engineering and Lloyd’s Register Foundation that brings global experts together to engineer change. We work in partnership to implement our vision of engineers playing their full role in addressing global challenges. We collect evidence, create diverse and global communities around the challenge and amplify unheard voices.

Since 2019, Engineering X has designed and implemented five global missions tackling pressing safety and sustainability challenges.

We are a collaborative, enthusiastic and friendly team, dedicated to influencing change where it is most needed. We have a new strategy which we are operationalising and have plans to build new programmes and partnerships over the next year, so we are looking for someone who is excited to join a growing and ambitious team.

Why work for the Royal Academy of Engineering?

We’re looking for people who are driven to make the world a better place. If you’re passionate about what you do and want to work collaboratively with talented colleagues to make change happen now and for future generations, we want you to get in touch.

We are looking for talented people who want to make a difference, to join our team – is this you?
