Job Title: Programme Director
Location: Home-based in Kenya
Contract Duration: 12 months contract with the possibility of an extension
Reports to: Chief Program Officer
Travel: Domestic or international travel may be required (10%)
Open to: Residents of Kenya

DRS seeks a dynamic Programme Director for an International Non-Governmental Organization. This role, based in Kenya, will lead global partnerships, streamline impact measurement processes, and champion the concept of producer-centricity.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Programme Director will steer the Global Programs department, serving as a vital resource hub for the organization’s strategy implementation. This involves guiding global initiatives, regional projects, and partnerships. The focus is on ensuring coordination, consistency, accountability, and continuous learning across all global programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Proactively lead and support the organization in achieving its 2030 Strategy with a focus on speed, scale, and simplification.
  • Establish and operate the new department, collaborating closely with functional area leaders and the Chief Program Officer.
  • Represent the organization at key events, policy forums, and roundtables to promote initiatives and support fundraising efforts.
  • Utilize research, impact data, and qualitative sources for data-driven decision-making in program design and implementation.
  • Cultivate a culture of positive collaboration, consult inclusively, and embed continuous learning into programmatic work.
  • Continuously assess and integrate global programs and partnerships, identifying new opportunities for impact.
  • Ensure consistency, coordination, accountability, and continuous learning between global programs.
  • Provide thought leadership to design and develop regional projects and global programs based on standard methodology.
  • Design and implement the Organization’s Impact framework for cost-effective impact measurement aligned with Enterprise Goals.
  • Support the Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning function for effective data gathering and dissemination.

Qualifications:

  • University Degree in Agriculture, Biology, Social Sciences, or related field; Master’s degree highly preferred.
  • At least 15 years of progressive relevant experience, including 10 years in department-level strategy development and leadership.
  • Extensive experience in facilitating industry collaboration, strategic alliances, and systems change methodologies.
  • Commitment to sustainable development goals and the organization’s mission.
  • Direct experience working with producers and/or forest communities.
  • Key competencies: Transformational leadership, innovation, adaptability, persuasion, critical thinking, public speaking, and strong organizational skills.
  • High-quality spoken and written English, preferably with knowledge of other languages.
