Then DIGNITY – Danish Institute Against Torture can offer you an exciting opportunity as Programme Advisor and Deputy Team Leader for Human Rights and Inclusion Consortium (HRIC).

DIGNITY was founded in 1982 as one of the world’s first specialized torture rehabilitation centers. Today, we are a leading global player in research-based torture prevention and rehabilitation of trauma survivors. We work both politically and developmentally for a world free of torture.

The international department consists of approximately 25 employees in addition to two country offices in Jordan and Tunisia, while DIGNITY employs app. 120.

The position

DIGNITY is leading the Human Rights and Inclusion Consortium (HRIC) implementing the Human Rights pillar of the Danish Arab Partnership Programme (DAPP) in Egypt, Jordan, Morocco and Tunisia for the coming 5 years. The Consortium consists of a diverse group of organizations working on a broad set of human rights issues with each their focus, and specific modalities/approaches. With shared values in common they all work with strong, and independent partners, who promote and protect human rights.

The position is placed within DIGNITY’s lead role of the HRIC Consortium.

Your primary tasks will be to:

  • Work with members and sub-contractors to ensure a systemic approach across the Programme with interlinkages between multiple ToCs
  • Take lead in developing and facilitating coordination and collaboration across the Consortium and Programme – especially in North Africa and Masreq.
  • Take lead on the continued alignment of the Programme, responding and adapting the volatile context in the MENA region. This includes analysis of key developments affecting the interventions.
  • Liaise with the donor and its representatives (such as the designated MEAL Unit) together with staff on the HRI Programme related to North Africa,
  • Produce strategies, and other documentation such as reporting to the donor
  • Develop and implement governance and administrative structures in the consortium.

Required skills

We expect you to have an Academic education at Master level in Development Studies, International Relations, Middle East Studies, Political Science or similar.

We also expect that you have:

  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills oral as well as written
  • 5-10 years of experience in working with development programmes in complex settings, and preferable with multi-partner/stakeholder set-ups.
  • 5-10 years of experience in managing donor-relations
  • It is an advantage if you have experience from working in the MENA region and especially in North Africa/Masreq with Human Rights, Civil Society, and with youth movements or organizations.
  • High proficiency in English, French and Danish. Arabic would be an additional advantage
  • Solid knowledge of intersectionality, gender and youth.

  • Are innovative with strong work ethic.

Terms of employment

The position is placed in DIGNITY’s International Programmes Department with reference to the Director of the department.

You are expected to travel to the MENA region as a minimum 60 days annually.

Your place of employment will be at Bryggervangen 55, 2100 Copenhagen Ø, Denmark. If you live abroad, you are expected to take up residence in Denmark.

Expected start date: October 1st, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter.

Your working hours are 37 hours per week.

The employment is based on the collective agreement for academics in the state (“specialkonsulent” salary step level).
