Our work in Myanmar

In 2003/2004 we started our work in Myanmar. Today, we focus on helping the most vulnerable members of society by providing them with the basic necessities of life. We work with conflict-affected internally displaced, host communities and conflict-affected returnees. Our working area is Rakhine State (Sittwe and Kyauktaw Townships). Here, we focus particularly on water supplies, sanitation and food security.

In 2022 ZOA has adopted a new strategy 2023-2025. In the new strategy, climate resilience became one of the strategic goals of the organisation.

Myanmar became an increasingly fragile country and one of the fragilities is related to climate change and natural disasters. Traditionally Myanmar depends for a large part on agricultural production and export. The agricultural production has been put under pressure by increasing fragility and increasing unpredictable weather patterns. In several parts of the country there is an increasing demand for improvement of water management linked to agricultural production and value chains in fragile areas.

Your challenge

The responsibility of the Programme Adviser (PGA) Climate Resilience is to ensure high quality programme design, implementation, evaluation and learning. In addition, the PGA is responsible for the development of high quality project proposals for existing and potential donors in relation food security, climate resilience, water management and agri value chain development to stabilise and/or improve food security in fragile areas in Myanmar.

Your main tasks and responsibilities

Programme quality

• Supports Country Director (CD) and Programme Managers (PGMs) in further development of the programmes in climate resilience, agricultural value chains or water management to stabilise and/or improve food security in fragile areas in Myanmar;
• Responsible for the quality and consistency of programme and project planning;
• Responsible for adherence to ZOA policy and compliant with ZOA, donor, national and international guidelines, policies and standards in the implementation of projects;
• Develops, implements and maintains monitoring, evaluation and learning (MEAL) tools, including the use of standardised indicators;
• Advises and supports Country Director (CD) and Programme Managers (PGMs) on the development of the Country Strategy and Annual Plan;
• Supports the PGMs in the development of beneficiary accountability tools throughout the programme;
• Responsible for partner assessments and the development of capacity development plans;
• Ensures gender, protection and conflict sensitive project design and implementation.

Reporting/digital data collection

• Develops and writes high quality project proposals and monitors consistency between donor proposals and Country Strategy;
• Contributes to on-time, high quality submission of donor reports and evaluations;
• Supports the CD and PGMs in the writing of the internal quarterly reports and annual review.

Knowledge management and learning

• Responsible for the development of knowledge management at country level and contributing to organisation-wide knowledge management;
• Leads the development of innovative project proposals.

Your profile

Identity

• The candidate is expected to fully support the vision, mission and Christian values of ZOA.

Knowledge

• University degree (Masters/bachelor) in climate resilience/agricultural value chains/water management, development or other relevant field;
• At least three years (Master) or five years (bachelor) field experience in climate resilience/agricultural value chains/water management in a fragile context;
• Familiar with project cycle management;
• Command of English;
• Research skills.

Special conditions/circumstances
