PROGRAM OFFICER – CLIMATE CHANGE

Dorcas Aid International – Kenya a Christian Relief and Development Organization working in areas of WASH, climate change, entrepreneurship and social empowerment and protection is currently recruiting for a position of a Program Officer – Climate Change. The position is to assist Dorcas grow and expand its expertise in climate change in Kenya. The position is to be based in Dorcas Office, Nairobi Kenya with frequent travels to different counties.

Position Description

The position requires a motivated and skilled professional with hand-on experience in designing climate change programs that bring tangible changes in communities, especially in areas of climate smart-agriculture, innovative clean and green energy solutions, ecosystem restoration, reduction of climate related conflicts, as well as policy influencing. The holder of this position should demonstrate experience in fundraising for climate change programs, building consortiums, working with multi-stakeholder partners, as well as collaborating with different organizations including county governments and the private sector in order to build community resilience.

Key responsibilities

Development of innovative proposals in climate resilience and adaptation

Develop partnerships with different organizations working in the climate change space including county governments, knowledge centres and the private sector.

Identify and map different funding opportunities both locally and internationally to support climate change programming

Provide technical support to Dorcas partners in different counties to enable them effectively implement climate change programs

Develop a clear Dorcas policy on climate change and position Dorcas among Climate Change actors in Kenya

Represent Dorcas at various forums discussing climate change actions in Kenya and Internationally

Participate and contribute to climate change policy influencing at both the county and national government levels

Contribute to learning and documentation of best practices and innovations in climate change.

Prepare quality reports on climate change according to Dorcas and donor reporting schedules.

This position requires a minimum of a Bachelor Degree with 5 years’ working experience in climate change related programming.
