POSITION SUMMARY:

Serves as Program Manager for the Global Volunteer Program. This position will develop, integrate, implement and manage a comprehensive international volunteer operations supporting Global Health programs, HOPE-supported partners, and Disaster Response/Humanitarian Assistance. The Program Manager supports full-cycle volunteer management including recruitment, orientation, coordination, evaluation and recognition of volunteers. The Program Manager will work to solidify current relationships, expand partnerships, and improve the programmatic content of volunteer engagement at field sites. The Program Manager may also act as a backstop for other recruitment needs.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain and grow volunteer base through outreach to individuals, community-based organizations and groups, colleges/universities, hospitals, and corporations.
  • Maintain volunteer database (currently Samaritan).
  • Support Project HOPE’s Emergency Response efforts at headquarters and/or in the field to coordinate volunteers and monitor information throughout the response.
  • Deploy in support of emergency response efforts as needed.
  • Work closely with all departments and programs to assess needs for volunteers. Provide consultation, coordination, communication, and technical assistance to the organization for volunteer integration.
  • Develop and maintain recruitment and orientation process for new volunteers, as well as continued engagement opportunities for existing/previous volunteers.
  • Support monitoring and evaluation of volunteer program outputs, outcomes and impacts.
  • Create/Manage recognition program for volunteers. Increase volunteer Level of Effort (LOE) throughout GH sites, by coordinating with the site leadership on the identified needs, as well as support screening of potential applicants.
  • Plan and execute volunteer appreciation and recognition activities.
  • Provide accurate and timely volunteer data for funder and volunteer-requested reports – including monthly activity reports for Finance for donated services.
  • Maintain and monitor stock of HOPE volunteer uniforms and direct issuance of uniforms in conjunction with the Project HOPE Office Coordinator.
  • Act as a backstop for other recruitment needs throughout the organization as needed/required.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • Minimum 5 years related experience; with minimum three years in volunteer programs/management.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with individuals, organizations and businesses.
  • Ability to travel, both international and domestic between 10-50%
  • Experience working or volunteering in humanitarian assistance and disaster response preferred
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • High level of computer literacy in basic and advanced computer programs preferred; Strong knowledge of web-based technologies for training, communication, and information dissemination is recommended
  • Experience living, working or volunteering in a developing country context preferred
  • Ability to think creatively and strategically about programs and activities, deal sensitively in multi-cultural environments, build effective working relations with partners, donors, and colleagues, and achieve results through collaboration
  • Ability to manage deadlines, work independently, prioritize workload and multi-task in fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stay organized and manage multiple projects at one time.
  • Fluency in a foreign language (Spanish, French or Russian) preferred.

Work environment:

  • Typical office environment with exposure to a minimal noise level.
  • Emergency deployments may be in resource-deprived environments with austere living conditions.
  • Travel for extended periods may be by air and/or other modes of transportation.
  • While international travel is not a regular part of every job, programmatic needs may require it intermittently.
  • Project HOPE employees may be required to travel or work in countries where working conditions are classified as “hardship.”
