The position is to be filled as soon as possible, with a contract duration until December 31, 2023. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Bonn, Germany.

As Program Manager „Land for Life“ you are responsible for managing a complex, transnational (Ethiopia, Burkina Faso, Liberia and Sierra Leone) and innovative development project. In close cooperation with colleagues from Welthungerhilfe’s country offices and partner organizations, you will develop strategies to promote responsible land policies and their implementation. In this way, you will make an important contribution to land tenure security and the right to food of smallholder farmers and their families.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and implementation of strategic (planning) workshops and training measures, with participants from civil society, government, academia and the private sector
  • Ongoing technical and strategic backstopping support to Welthungerhilfe colleagues and partner organizations involved in the intervention, as well as coordination of the strategic and personnel orientation of the Land for Life-initiative in consultation with the country directors of Welthungerhilfe
  • Planning, coordination and implementation of cross-country processes in order to further develop the initiative and to create an efficient working atmosphere within the “Land for Life” team
  • Development of standards and optimization of processes in order to successfully implement the innovative “Land for Life” intervention approach: achieving change through the facilitation of dialogue among all interested and influential actors
  • Independent development of discussion papers on the implications of this approach for Welthungerhilfe
  • Conceptualization, planning and implementation of events on national and international level in cooperation with representatives of international organizations (FAO, ILC, etc.)
  • Thematic and intervention-related presentations and contributions at events and participation in relevant networks
  • Ensuring integration of learnings and evidence from the Land for Life-initiative into Welthungerhilfe’s political work

Your profile

  • A university or polytechnical degree in a relevant field
  • Several years of work experience in non-European countries
  • Several years of experience in working on or accompanying political processes, ideally in the field of land rights/land governance/responsible agricultural investments
  • Experience in working in partnership with colleagues from other cultural contexts is desirable
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, persuasiveness and assertiveness towards partners and decision makers from politics, administration and civil society
  • Willingness to travel to the countries involved in the initiative
  • Very good command of written and spoken German and English, knowledge of French is an advantage
