Job Overview:

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a partner in the National Resource Center for Refugees, Immigrants, and Migrants (NRC-RIM), led by the University of Minnesota and funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). NRC-RIM’s mission is to decrease health disparities and improve health outcomes in Refugee, Immigrant, and Migrant (RIM) communities in the U.S. As an NRC-RIM partner, IRC develops and leads innovative health promotion activities in partnership with RIM communities in key locations in the U.S. This includes engaging directly with communities through in-person and digital initiatives around COVID-19, vaccination, and other health promotion topics; creating and sharing promising practices; and strengthening partnership nationally and locally to mitigate barriers for RIM communities. Over the next year, IRC efforts will significantly focus on improving access and outcomes within the Afghan community in the U.S. Health topics to be determined based on community need’s assessments.

Within the IRC, this position is part of the Research, Analysis, and Learning team – a dynamic group of individuals who use technology, creativity, and innovation to expand the Resettlement, Asylum, and Integration (RAI) department’s capacity to be more evidence-based and data-driven; ensuring learnings from our practice inform our work through informational and instructional design, and, externally, influence the work of our sector and the wellbeing of our clients through training and technical assistance programs.

The Program Manager, Client Communication, will play a key role in supporting this work through the conception and development of the program’s client and community communications. The Program Manager will be responsible for ensuring high-quality communications about the project’s initiatives, including blog posts, flyers, infographics, social media posts, and other written communication materials.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Research, gather information and write client-facing content related to health promotion, with guidance from the Technical Advisor for Health Promotion and the NRC-RIM team
  • Formalize and implement a communications strategy to increase the visibility of the project’s resources and materials and increase the number of learners participating in project activities
  • Develop blog posts, social media posts, and other written materials that are accurate, easy to understand, engaging, and accessible
  • Launch and manage a communications calendar and ensure content is scheduled and posted regularly
  • Together with the Program Manager for Multimedia and Design, regularly adapt, edit, and repurpose multimedia content into written formats for the NRC-RIM audience and other similar audiences
  • Research and recommend innovative communications practices that the project should incorporate
  • Create content for SMS and digital awareness campaigns
  • Proofread project reports
  • Collaborate with other project staff to ensure maximum visibility and distribution of materials
  • Participate in regular project meetings and other events as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Job Requirements:

  • BA/BS or equivalent experience in journalism, public health communications, digital communications, or relevant field
  • At least three years of reporting, writing, and editing experience, including for online platforms and social media
  • Excellent writer with a keen ability to gather and synthesize information, specifically for comprehension across cultures and in communities with various digital and written literacy levels
  • Demonstrated experience engaging in a cultural validation process to ensure materials are linguistically tailored to and appropriate for multicultural and multilingual audiences
  • Experience and/or interest in health communications, public health, mental health, or behavior change considered an advantage
  • Knowledge of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and experience using digital analytics tools (Google Analytics), creating digital content, and managing content in mobile apps strongly preferred
  • Solid understanding of the digital landscape, social media platforms, and what makes digital content work
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work in a fast-paced environment within and across departments, functions, and geographic locations and develop positive relationships with local and remote-based staff
  • Solid organizational skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks, set priorities, effectively manage time, and meet deadlines
  • Detail-orientated and self-directed
  • Strong commitment to social service or humanitarian assistance programs and willingness to adhere to the IRC’s Standards for Professional Conduct
  • Individuals with lived immigrant experience and/or experience working with the Afghan community are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Fluency in English required; knowledge of Dari and/or Pashto an advantage

Working Environment:**

This position can be based at IRC’s headquarters in New York City or remotely within the United States.
