Job title: Program Coordinator

Responsible to: MCC Representatives

Location: Bulawayo, Zimbabwe

Term: 1 Year Fixed Contract (Possibility of Contract’s Extension/Renewal).

Start date: As soon as possible

Synopsis:

MCC Africa has programed Climate Change and Food Security & Sustainable Livelihood as one of its strategic objectives for the next five years. The Program Coordinator will essentially be instrumental in aligning MCC Zimbabwe programming towards this objective.

This position requires one’s ability to provide Project Monitoring and Evaluation (PME) capacity strengthening to partners. He/she will work to ensure that project implementations integrate PME in all project programming. Tasks will include monitoring MCC’s grant funding to all partners to assist with program planning, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting or proposal-writing, as the case may be.

Approximately 90% of the time will be devoted to the partner organizations, and 10% of the time will be devoted to networking with other PME counterparts within the global MCC. This will be done in consultation with MCC Representatives in Zimbabwe.

Duties and Responsibilities:

This position requires the staff to work with MCC partners, helping them to develop their organizational capacity. Specific areas of support will include, but are not limited to:

1. Ensure partner’s financial review

  1. Manage the MCC database such as PLANWin and the likes.

  2. Develop, and strengthen management roles.

  3. Provide assistance to partners on concepts and proposal writing/developments.

  4. Assist partners in preparing, collating, and editing all their reports.

  5. Provide regular training of partners on various aspects of PME.

  6. Ensure timely submission of partners’ reports (both financial and narrative) in line with MCC timelines.

  7. Ensure all partners’ yearly MOUs are updated.

  8. Assist with improving MCC Zimbabwe’s social media.

  9. Any other duties that may be assigned by the MCC Representatives in Zimbabwe.

MCC Zimbabwe Team Support:

  1. Demonstrate a cooperative spirit, and function as an active member of the MCC Zimbabwe team through regular updates and attendance at all functions of the team.

  2. Work interdependently with other sectors/staff for mutual collaboration and collective support.

Qualification, Skills, and Experience Requirements

  1. Degree in social sciences, management, or related fields.

  2. Leadership development experience preferred

  3. Strong written and spoken English communication skills and ability to communicate in the local language(s) – Ndebele or Shona o Tonga.

  4. Previous work and basic understanding of NGOs or non-profit organizations.

  5. Preferred 2 years of experience in program planning, proposals, and report writing for international audiences.

  6. Good relational skills, respect for the host culture, interest in working alongside others as opposed to imposing ideas.

  7. Ability to work comfortably within values consistent with Anabaptist teaching on peace, justice, and reconciliation.

  8. Ability to work well with teams (collaborative work and tolerance for group decision making).

  9. Aptitude in using the internet, as well as Information Technology skills.

  10. Ability in statistics, computer data systems, computer programs such as excel, word, PowerPoint, and a host of others.

  11. Self-motivated, demonstrate flexibility and ability to thrive even in an unstructured position.

  12. Travel: Willingness to travel long distances and work long days (with time off in lieu). Be willing to travel frequently by bus and accept the sometimes-rustic realities of the Zimbabwe context. Having a valid driver’s permit and being comfortable driving both automatic and manual transmission vehicles is an asset.
