Mission

Role

The Program development and grants Consultant will be responsible for providing support to the mission in proposal development and grant management, including donor reporting. The role will also support the programme team in the creation and editing of all communications related materials and research projects, including case studies and context analyses.

Core responsibilities

I. Project Reporting and Development

  • Develops of regular donor reports, ensuring accurate data collection and timely submission.
  • Develops briefing notes, contextual and legal analyses, and other documentation when necessary.
  • Supports the mission in the identification, preparation, and development of concept notes. Logframes and new project proposals, ensuring these are in line with program goals, objectives, and indicators.
  • Supports the conducting of assessments, studies, and research as necessary, through desk reviews and in coordination with field missions.

II. Grant Management

  • Assists the programme team in the development and coordination of detailed implementation plans on a monthly base, consistent with program documentation (grant document and proposal).
  • Supports missions in the development of a MEAL tools and plans, including the collection and appropriate archiving of key results and impact recorded by field missions in the region.
  • Conducts a periodical review of all grant related documentation, ensuring correct storage, and archiving.

III. Communication

  • Supports the mission by writing and editing program related internal and external communications, success stories, interviews and flash updates, to be shared with HQ and submitted to donors.
  • Supports the missions in the development of communication plans for the projects.

Additional responsibilities

  • Travel to the field to better understand the context and programming in order to develop proposals and report or liaise with donors. This includes travel to remote sites where physical conditions are difficult.
  • Participate in events related to the Sahel region in Geneva with the United Nations, INGOs, etc – on request or on initiative,
  • Undertake other tasks as requested.

Professional requirements

Education and experience

  • University degree in a relevant field.
  • Knowledge of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) or International Human Right Law.
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant work experience, ideally with a humanitarian organisation.
  • Knowledge or demonstrable interest in civilian protection, human security, violence reduction and/or peacebuilding.

Technical skills

  • Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to analyze in writing and orally. This position requires a significant amount of writing.
  • Good understanding of MEAL tools.
  • Experience of conducting assessments.
  • Knowledge or demonstrable interest in civilian protection, human security, violence reduction and/or peacebuilding.
  • Understanding of the Sahel context.
  • Demonstrate skills in conflict analysis.
  • Understanding of donor regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience in developing and writing successful grant proposals /concept notes and reports in humanitarian or development context.
  • Knowledge or demonstrated interest in the Sahel region.

Languages

  • Full professional proficiency in English and French.

Personal skills

  • Experience of managing and prioritizing a high workload, with a flexible approach to changing environments.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work under pressure, travel frequently in conflict-affected areas and to handle numerous tasks simultaneously.
