The Process Systems Engineer (PSE) – EMEA is a process engineering role within a super exciting multidisciplinary team of a new industry that seeks to bring zero emissions mobility to all sectors of global transportation. In this role, the PSE will provide process engineering support for all related aspects of the optimized integration of machinery systems in hydrogen production and refueling systems within our Hydrogen Mobility business across the Europe, Middle East and Afrika (EMEA).

As a part of the Systems-Engineering team the PSE is moreover using an Engineering and System Excellence approach across the entire value chain. To accomplish this, the PSE will serve as a technical authority and process engineering focal point of through the full lifecycle during all relevant phases.

The Shell Hydrogen business has an agile start-up mentality within the Shell Renewables and Energy Solutions organization (formerly ‘New Energies’) consisting of the VP Hydrogen and GMs responsible for Import/Export, HSSE, Industry, Large Scale Integration and Mobility.

This role is part of the Mobility organization and within this team the accountabilities cover New Business Development, Technology, Systems Engineering, Project Delivery and Operations.

The global Systems Engineering Team has a regional structure and dedicated resources for EMEA, Americas and Asia-Pacific. The MSE-EMEA reports within this regional team to the Machinery-Systems-Manager.

What’s the role?

The candidate is responsible to provide Process Engineering excellence for Machinery Systems integration within the field of business development, conceptual engineering, technical assurance, project-, operational and reliability support and technical safety.

Therefore, the candidate is interfaced with system- and product engineering, operational, reliability, project, and safety colleagues across Hydrogen-Mobility as well as with Technical Authorities and Discipline Peers and others across the wider Shell company.

To meet the purpose of the job, the PSE is accountable for:

  • The functional ownership of the Instrument & Control (I&C) layout and process integration of the Compression and Thermal Management Systems (CTMS) using process engineering technics
  • This ownership includes Process Automation, SIS and Safeguarding, Field Instrumentation and some aspects of PCD Integrity and Security.
  • Specification, evaluation, and selection of CTMS control requirements, conducting acceptance tests and performance verifications (FAT).
  • Assurance that the design of CTMS follows Process HSSE Standards and specifications by participation and support of HAZIDs, HAZOPs etc.
  • Providing a technical assessment of process control changes.
  • Setup the basis of process control requirements utilizing advanced data analytics and support the operational implementation of a Hydrogen Digital Platform (HDP) to collect and analyze data from Shell’s Hydrogen EMEA network
  • Provide Engineering support to ensure process monitoring program is evaluated, reported and that corrective actions are initiated if required.
  • Provide fit for purpose solutions that balance business goals of safety, cost-effectiveness, reliability, and sustainability
  • Continuous drive for improvement of reliability & costs
  • Seeking the expertise and advice of specialist where necessary.

What we need from you?

We’re keen to speak from individuals with proven experience in the field of Hydrogen process systems and process control of machinery systems incl. auxiliary systems, instrumentation, monitoring, etc., formal training (i.e. SATP) preferred. A Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s Degree in Process or Mechanical Engineering is preferred.

  • Risk management analyses and trade studies
