DESCRIPTION

Summary

This position is vital to the success of private sector engagement at VillageReach and is a key member of the PSE team. The position holder will support VillageReach programs and solutions in developing a PSE strategy and plan and will oversee the contributions of a broad range of private sector firms (logistics, telecommunications, pharma distribution etc.). The individual will ensure that needed contracts and service level agreements are in place and will participate in joint performance reviews with program teams and private sector partners to ensure a healthy partnership and to support achievement of program objectives.

Description

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time.

Demand/Supply Matching (20%)

  • Yearly/Bi-Yearly – Lead development and update of a PSE Strategy & Plan for each program and solution with the Objectives, Scope, Stage, Partner/Potential Partners, Targeted Outcomes and Needed Start Date. Includes Key Principles and Risk Assessment (risks and mitigation actions)
  • Yearly/Bi-Yearly – Lead assessment of progress versus the PSE Strategy & Plan; identify corrective actions for each solution and program

Solution Definition (20%)

  • On-going: Support private firms in developing strategies, business plans and operational plans needed to enable their effective involvement in VillageReach programs
  • On-going: For private sector TA partners (PLM, ARC, etc.), lead scoping of specific interventions, with clear project charters, and ensure that interventions are properly staffed both by TA partner and VillageReach
  • On-going: Support program and solution team in implementation of activities in partnering agreement, including Business Plan definition, solution costing, private sector workplan, and team definition

Solution Delivery (60%)

  • On-going: Lead development of Service Level Agreements (SLAs) between govts. and private firms
  • On-going: Lead implementation of Joint Performance Reviews to drive on going collaboration between private sector firms and govt.
  • On-going: Ensure involvement of private sector firms in VillageReach’s work on solution costing
  • On-going: Support identification of private firm needs for technical and managerial capacity building and define capacity building plan
  • On-going: Lead technical and managerial capacity development of private sector firms, including growing their capacity to work with public sector partners

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities

Education & Experience:

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or closely related field.
  • At least 10 years of experience working in the private sector, preferably in Sub-Saharan Africa
  • Experience in specifying and contracting for services, setting up partnerships and supporting on-going collaboration with external private sector partners is essential
  • Previous experience with telecommunications, logistics, pharma distribution or data analytics firms is preferred
  • Previous experience in private sector engagement or corporate social responsibility within the context of economic development is preferred

Other Qualifications:

  • Comply with VillageReach’s COVID-19 vaccination policy.
  • Established cultural competency in partnering with racial, cultural and linguistically diverse groups.
  • Demonstrated understanding of challenges with working in rural, underserved and low-income context; experience living in and/or working in a low-income country a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel) and comfortable in a fast-paced technical environment.
  • Professional English with either professional French or Portuguese

Environment and Physical Demands:

VillageReach has no private offices, employees work in a shared, open environment with task and conference rooms accessible to employees for privacy and meetings. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. Due to the time zone differences between our USA office and our Country Offices and location of other global staff, US based staff are expected to be available for early morning meetings starting at 6am. In addition, our Regional Africa based staff and Country office staff are expected to be available for late afternoon/evening meetings up to 6pm.

Compensation:

VillageReach has an established compensation structure that is based on the relevant market and internally transparent. The range for this position is $77,200 to $95,600. We hire people into the established range based on one’s experience and education and considering internal equity. We do not inquire about salary history.
