The Principal Architect serves multiple roles in new business development, capacity building and team management. Responsibilities as Principal Architect include delivering enterprise-ready architectures, software, standards, and technical support of IntraHealth’s digital health solutions. In addition, the Principal Architect also manages the software engineering team to ensure technical standards of excellence and professional development and technical leadership. She/he develops and maintains external relationships with donors and partners in the global digital health technical landscape.

This position can be based remotely, or from our Chapel Hill, North Carolina office.

Main Responsibilities Include

  • Evaluates technologies, architectures, and standards and oversees their implementation from concept to working product and advises on the choices of suitable technologies.
  • Publicly promotes IntraHealth’s Global Goods and has a passion for staying current and experimenting with new standards, approaches, and tools while balancing the need to support legacy infrastructure and locally-led governance and ownership of health information systems
  • Manages the delivery and support of enterprise-level solutions, prioritizing the protection of patient data, cybersecurity, help desk support, and the production of technical documentation required for implementers to succeed.
  • Builds country digital health capacity to implement sustainable services and applications that contribute to improved health outcomes.
  • Mentors the software engineering team to ensure staff welfare, career growth and professional development are accelerated
  • Builds partnerships with donors, digital health community leaders and the private sector for shared, standards-based solutions.

Experience

  • Master’s Degree and 10 years of experience in Digital Health, Informatics, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Statistics, Epidemiology, and direct NGO Programs experience all preferably in a public health environment, or a PhD/MD and six years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of relevant experience.
  • Six years experience technical supervision of a team of Software Engineers, or substantial technical supervisory experience in developing country contexts and/or humanitarian settings.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in at least two programming languages.
  • At least five years of experience with providing enterprise-level IT or HIS support.
  • Demonstrated experience working with governments in LMICs
  • Strong communicator with a proven ability to explain and write about digital health technical concepts to a non-technical audience.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact culturally, linguistically, and diplomatically with diverse internal and external individuals.
  • Comfortable managing in a flexible, changing and virtual environment, with the ability to be ready to adjust plans and direction in response to local feedback and the iterative nature of digital health projects.
  • Excellent oral and written technical communication skills in English required.
  • Deep understanding of global health and digital health landscape.
  • Experience in a public health domain, e.g. HIV, ANC, reproductive health.
