Context

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Communications, and in close collaboration with the Communications team in Amman, as well as the Press Officers in Dubai and Beirut, the Press & Media Officer is responsible for making the medical and humanitarian action of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) known to the media, the public, institutions, vendors and key persons or groups in the MENA (Middle-East North-Africa) region.

The Press & Media Officer will support the OCA communications, advocacy and recruitment objectives in the region in terms of acceptance, visibility and leverage. He/she will develop a strong network of national, regional and international journalists based in the MENA region. He/She will also work on supporting MSF’s institutional and operational communications initiatives and projects of the MSF OCA MENA Regional Office as well as contribute to MSF’s global awareness, acceptance and visibility.

Requirements

Experience:

  • A degree in Communications/ journalism or related fields is a preference
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in media relations, public relations or working in the communications department of an NGO or in journalism
  • Previous experience working or volunteering with MSF a strong asset

Professional competences:

  • Good understanding of media in the region
  • Possess a constant active view of national and international current events
  • Knowledge of media monitoring and research tools

Languages:

  • Excellent oral and written communications skills in Arabic and English.

Personal abilities & qualities:

  • Good interpersonal and intercultural skills
  • Excellent team player
  • Able to work autonomously and implement an action plan
  • Adaptability, flexibility and willingness to work out-of-hours and weekends at short notice
  • Willingness to travel abroad for work

Contract

  • Full-time position 100%
  • 1-year (12 months) Jordanian contract
  • Position based in Amman with regular visits to the field
  • Ideal start date: ASAP
  • Gross monthly salary: JOD 1’380 – (+ seniority in MSF) according to the internal regulations and salary grid of MSF in Amman
  • Relocation package for staff recruited from abroad
