Salary: £26,000 per annum (plus £3,344 Inner London Weighting allowance if applicable)

What you will be doing

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to support and enhance the public positioning of the British Red Cross.
As PR Officer you will provide dedicated media support on all aspects our UK and international work. Working under the direction of the PR manager, this role is focussed on securing high-profile, positive publicity and media coverage for the orga nisation by delivering specialist experiential, multi-channel campaigns to support the charity’s organisational priorities.
Utilising advanced marketing, journalistic and creative skills and experience to build relations with new audiences, you will work on British Red Cross appeals, advocacy campaigns and day-to-day engagement activity including media, advocacy, social media and marketing initiatives.
Reporting to the PR manager, you will support the wider communications and engagement directorate and other departments in all aspects of public engagement; facilitating the development of public relations plans that are informed by a robust understanding of the organisation’s priority external audiences.
What we are looking for
To succeed in this role, you’ll have a sound working knowledge of UK media with a strong understanding of what makes a good story and write and deliver campaign plans.
With significant experience working with the national media either as a journalist, working in PR or media relations, you will have a firm understanding of the way digital media is affecting the news environment.
You should also have experience of responding to queries and pitching story ideas as well as experience working with journalists and briefing advising media spokespeople for interviews.

The PR Officer role supports the PR and celebrity liaison function and part of the broader Media Team and sits within the Strategy, Advocacy and Communications directorate.
The Strategy, Advocacy and Communications directorate tells the stories about who we are, what we do, what we believe, and the difference we make to people’s lives – so that both externally and internally people act, behave, or make decisions in a way that results in a positive change for people in crisis.
