The Post-Doctoral Fellow for Gender Research will work within the Tropical Forages Program, and will lead and execute projects in gender dynamics, youth, historical analysis, and other methodologies for the livestock sector in Asia, Latin America, and Africa. Likewise, the incumbent must be able to contribute to the other endeavors and projects, both in the socioeconomic group in which the position falls as well as in general with the other colleagues and global teams of the Alliance for the adequate design and execution of research objectives. These objectives are aimed at promoting the use of more sustainable technologies in the livestock sector, and the dissemination of knowledge through publications in the scientific and/or academic field.

Responsibilities**

**• Develop gender-sensitive tools, materials and methodologies at a global level aimed at the livestock sector (forage seeds, business models)
• Engage and identify needs and characteristics of local communities and households when developing gender-sensitive and inclusive livestock value chains (qualitative fieldwork and/or processing of qualitative information)
• Map current and historic interethnic relationships in territories where Tropical Forages projects take place, underscoring how such filiations influence livestock value chains.
• Design and implement tools to acknowledge existing gaps in livestock value chains, especially regarding generational transfer dynamics
• Implement participatory, qualitative approaches to assess youth-in-livestock specific challenges and gaps.
• Co-design tailored interventions towards women, youth, and minority populations
• Contribute to the analysis of multi-actor platforms in LAC and potentially Africa from a historical perspective towards the development of capacity needs assessment and public policy formulation for sustainable cattle sector.
• Contribute to the fulfillment of the common objectives set out in the research proposals of the program.

Education and Requirements

• Advance degree (PhD as required) in Social Sciences, Human Studies, with educational background in Anthropology, Sociology, Social Sciences, or related fields.
• Specialized experience (minimum 3 years) in qualitative analysis, research on gender, livestock and forage, as well as in preparation of reports and other scientific documents
• Knowledge of qualitative methodologies, historical analysis, and previous knowledge on agriculture and livestock
• Experience in ethnographic work, as well as research experience in gender and rural settings, youth in livestock, and conflict-affected areas.
• Professional background in research projects and/or technology transfer initiatives involving the private sector in rural areas.
• Research experience in the development and analysis of educational programs, livestock and education/education for sustainability.
• Experience in analysis of national and global multi-stakeholder platforms, aimed at the sustainability of the livestock sector.
• Track record participation and/or leadership of scientific publications related to the area of expertise, and verifiable participation in academic events.
• Ability to supervise and guide staff, face-to-face and remotely, both in English and Spanish.
• Proven track record of work experience at the CGIAR is highly desirable.
• Previous research experience in bilateral research, cooperation and intervention projects desirable.
• Fluency in English and Spanish are essential to communicate in writing and speaking.

Terms of employment

This is an international recruited position, based Palmira, Colombia. The initial contract will be for up to two (2) years, subject to a probation period of six (6) months and is renewable depending on performance and availability of resources. This position is graded at a level BG08 in a scale of 14 levels being BG14 the highest level.
