RECOUP is a charity and leading authority providing expertise and guidance across the plastics recycling value chain. Built on a network of valued members, collaboration is central to RECOUP’s activities. The organisation is committed to securing sustainable, circular, and practical solutions for plastic resources both in the UK and worldwide.

We Need

We are looking for a Project Officer to work predominantly with the Policy & Infrastructure team, which focuses on representing RECOUP members and providing information, evidence, data analyses and reports that can be used throughout the industry and government.

The UK is in a period of extensive government consultations about waste and recycling, and the Policy & Infrastructure team is responsible for developing RECOUP’s responses to these in order to represent the interests of the plastics recycling value chain. One key report produced by the team each year is the UK Household Plastics Collection Survey, which collate and analyse data provided by Local Authorities around plastics service provision and collection quantities. The team also contribute to a wide range of other research, projects and reports.

There will also be opportunities to work with other members of the wider RECOUP team in support of other areas of delivery for RECOUP.

Essential

  • An interest in sustainability/protecting the natural environment and desire to learn about the waste and recycling of plastics
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workload
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Ability to undertake research and review and analyse datasets in Excel
  • Good report-writing ability
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Confident working as part of a team as well as using your own initiative
  • Proficient in all MS Office applications
  • A positive, professional, can-do attitude
  • Full UK driving license

Desirable

  • Ability to collate and design PowerPoint presentations to a good standard
  • Experience presenting to an audience
  • Experience of writing technical reports
  • Knowledge of the waste and recycling of plastic; this is not essential as training and support will be given to develop this.

Key Responsibilities

As a Projects Officer, you will work within a busy Peterborough based team to deliver and support a variety of initiatives and projects relating to the plastic packaging and products.

  • Research, data and evidence gathering and analysis, report writing, presenting outcomes, as well as other general project support activities.
  • Monitor key policy and legislative proposals and changes, communicating any potential impacts for the sector and support responses to government consultations.
  • Conduct internal and external research and projects and respond to requests from RECOUP members around plastic use and recycling.
  • Communicate with external stakeholders and members to promote RECOUP to the wider industry.
  • Organise and attend internal and external meetings and working groups – predominantly in the UK, and potentially overseas.
  • Conduct site visitsto understand waste and recycling processes and investigate new technologies.
  • Gain an understandingof what and how much people are recycling by occasionally conducting manual composition analysis of recycling waste material.
