The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures furthers the understanding, celebration, and preservation of cinema through inclusive and accessible exhibitions, screenings, programs, initiatives, and collections. Welcoming visitors from Los Angeles and around the world, the Museum works in active partnership with motion picture artists and specialists, scholars, staff, and diverse communities to contextualize and challenge dominant narratives around cinema, inspiring discourse, connection, joy, and discovery.

Reporting to the Senior Manager of Facilities, the Plumber will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, inspection, installation, and replacement of plumbing systems, pipes, fittings, and fixtures to maintain the heating, water, gas, and drainage systems. We are hiring for day and swing shifts. You must have flexibility to work overtime, weekends, late nights, holidays, and in an emergency.

You Will:

  • Inspect, test, repair, install, and maintain mechanical equipment and systems (e.g., fire protection systems, domestic and sewer lines and systems, eye wash stations, back flow devices, flushometers, service kitchens equipment, and grease interceptors).
  • Cut, bend, thread, and fit pipes with adjoining pipe assemblies.
  • Repair leaks and clear clogged drains.
  • Install sinks, showers, toilets, water heaters, and related plumbing fixtures.
  • Replace tile, replaster, or paint walls through which holes have been made to gain access to plumbing.
  • Interpret blueprints and work from sketches or verbal instructions.
  • Estimate time and material costs on plumbing projects.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure compliance and engineering specifications and Los Angeles city codes.
  • Requisition new plumbing supplies and equipment.
  • Clean up job site and return equipment and materials.
  • Operate and maintain a variety of power and hand tools; observe good safety practices on the job site.
  • Assist the HVAC Technician, Carpenter, Engineer, and Electrician to trouble shoot and service other related building systems and equipment.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

Position Requirements

You Have:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent certificate of completion.
  • A California driver license with less than three DMV points.
  • A Los Angeles County back flow tester license or able to obtain one within 12 months of employment.
  • A C 36 contractor’s license or Journeyman’s card.
  • 4+ years of maintenance plumbing experience.
  • CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) experience is a plus.
  • BMS (Building Management System) experience is a plus.
  • Ability to operate plumbing tools and equipment (e.g., cable snake machines, jetting machines, electric pipe thread machines, fiber optic cameras for inspection of drains, sonic leak detection equipment).
  • Ability to solder and braze copper pipe, cut, and thread all sizes and types of plumbing pipe.
  • Ability to repair and install plumbing fixtures (urinals, toilets, sinks).
  • Ability to troubleshoot domestic and industrial plumbing systems.
  • Experience with sewer ejector pumps.
  • Familiarity with the City of Los Angeles plumbing codes and regulations.
  • Familiarity with clay valves and fire life safety systems, including fire pumps, wet and dry sprinkler systems, and flow testing.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic systems and grease interceptors.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprint drawings.
  • Ability to use a computerized work order tracking system.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to repeatedly lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 pounds and kneel/bend/stoop/squat for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in fluctuating temperatures.
  • Ability to work under adverse situations and conditions (e.g., dirty, noisy, etc.).
  • Comfortable working on ladders, lifts, and heights.
