- Current Ontario Plumbers License
- Trade certification in Steam fitting — with Building Automation Controls preferred
- Demonstrated ability to conduct heavy physical lifting, frequent prolonged standing/walking, pushing/pulling or moving/lifting heavy equipment/supplies
- Demonstrated ability to reach, stoop, bend, kneel, and crouch
- Demonstrated manual dexterity and mobility
- Demonstrated ability to differentiate colours
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in an asbestos environment
- Demonstrated ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Demonstrated ability to use the tools and equipment of the trade
- Must be willing to provide own hand tools of the trade
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to work in areas that are cold, host, dusty, dirty, noisy, amongst machinery, at elevated levels and have cramped quarters

Unit Summary
The Engineering Department at Hamilton Health Sciences is an integral part of the support services, providing facilities maintenance services to all buildings, wards and departments at , General, JHCC, JCC, St. Peters, WLMH and McMaster Children’s Hospital sites. The Engineering staff is comprised of numerous and varied trades, including Stationary Engineers in the power plant, Electricians, Plumbers, Millwrights, Carpenters, Painters, etc. all contributing to the safe and efficient operation of the facilities. The department’s goals can best be summarized as “SERVICE EXCELLENCE”.
