ABOUT THE FRED HOLLOWS FOUNDATION

The Foundation is an international development organisation working to prevent blindness and restore sight. We continue to carry on the legacy of Professor Fred Hollows, who believed every person had the right to quality eye care, no matter where they live. The Foundation has grown to work in more than 25 countries throughout Africa, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and the Pacific, as well as Australia. The Foundation has restored sight to more than 3 million people worldwide. We have an ambitious five-year strategic plan that aims to take us even closer to realising our vision of a world in which no person is needlessly blind, or vision impaired and Indigenous Australians exercise their right to sight and good health.

The Foundation is also proud to announce that we were awarded the Employer of Choice Award (Public Sector and NFP) at the 2022 Australian HR Awards.

ABOUT YOU

You will be fluent in both Cantonese and English with written skills in English. Finally, you will be someone who is a creative and a measured risk-taker, able to find solutions and bring about new ways of working.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Hong Kong is an integral market for fundraising for The Fred Hollows Foundation. As a centre of wealth and an emerging regional leader in strategic philanthropy, there remains untapped sources of significant financial support for The Foundation’s work. The Foundation HK Major Gifts team thus far has focused more on recruiting corporate support than individual major donors and has been successful in building up a number of influential relationships. However, we are eager to build our networks within the major gifts program, including expanding our reach with individual philanthropic donors. This role will focus on acquisition, retention and upward cultivation of Major Donors in HK and ASEAN; and this position will work closely in conjunction with the global Philanthropy and Government Relations team as well as the HK-ASEAN office team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Stewardship and upward cultivation of existing donors in Hong Kong, and key donors in Singapore
  • Networking, prospect research and acquisition of new major donors, encompassing corporations, individuals, and foundations primarily in Hong Kong, but also supporting Singapore activities.
  • Help develop marketing and POS materials for use in Major Gifts Fundraising
  • Independently draft and prepare fundraising proposals and pitches.
  • Steward and leverage the expertise and networks of the HK Advisory Committee and HK-based Board members.
  • Organize Major Donor care and acquisition events.
  • Support the Chief Representative in Major Gifts budget planning and in meeting Major Gifts fundraising targets.
  • Support the HK-ASEAN team in large campaigns such as Humanity Awards and World Sight Day

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO SUCCEED

  • Have strong business development experience and an outgoing, ‘can-do’ attitude – specifically feel comfortable and confident in the acquisition of new major donors, networking, representation, and public speaking.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills, experience in grant-writing and verbal pitching a must.
  • Experience in international development & NFP sector
  • Understanding of the impact investment space
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills
