Business & Human Rights Resource Centre are seeking a dynamic professional to join our Operations Team as Personal Assistant & Operations Support, and you could be that person!

This role is the lynchpin of our organisation. You will be the integral cog in a wide array of processes, and no two days will be the same. You’ll be responsible for working closely with our Executive Director to support travel, diary and email management, our Operations Team to manage our internal systems and onboard new staff, and with our Management Team to ensure the key administrative needs of the organisation are met.

Based in: Shoreditch, London

Salary: £25,000 – 30,000 per year dependent on experience + 5% pension contribution

Business & Human Rights Resource Centre is an international human rights organisation working to ensure respect for human rights are at the core of companies’ business models, empower communities and workers to secure their rights, and advance accountability for corporate human rights abuse. Our Global Team, based in more than 20 countries around the world, work with a rich network of activists, unions, human rights groups, and investors. Our website and publications are available in ten languages. We work across all sectors and issues related to business and human rights, with strategic focus on the rights of workers in global supply chains, the rights of communities seeking responsible natural resource use and a just transition to zero carbon economies, and the rights of people to accountable digital technologies.

The Resource Centre has helped define the growing field of business & human rights. It has put companies in all regions on notice that their human rights conduct is being watched. It has drawn attention to corporate abuses in all countries and provided increased recognition to those companies taking positive steps to promote human rights. The Centre is widely respected for being fair, objective, and constructive in its approach to make change happen.

THE POSITION

This is a varied and interesting role, which offers unparalleled insight ‘under the hood’ of the organisation, and will include two primary areas of work:

PA to the Executive Director

There are a range of regular duties that you’ll support as part of the organisation’s management rhythm. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Assisting the Executive Director with email and diary administration
  • Leading management and board travel planning
  • Organising our bi-annual board meetings, including minutes, agendas and logistics
  • Supporting basic compliance needs of our subsidiaries as necessary

Operations Support

As our staff work remotely all around the world, our ‘office’ is as much a virtual space as it is a physical building in London. You’ll sit in our Operations Team and be responsible for supporting them with:

  • Recruitment support, including creating job listings, populating and distributing documentation for new hires
  • Managing onboarding of new staff into IT systems – creating user accounts, managing permissions and logging access granted
  • Dealing with telephone and email queries to our main contact lines
  • Maintaining records of our office suppliers, procuring new equipment and supplies
  • Acting as first line support for IT queries from staff, escalating to the Digital Projects Officer where needed
  • Acting as first point of contact in the London office for visitors, post and deliveries

ABOUT YOU

Qualifications

  • A minimum of 2-years’ experience in PA or administrative roles, including governance support, email management and diary coordination
  • Excellent organisational skills, proven ability to prioritise tasks, manage a busy workload and hit deadlines
  • Demonstrable IT proficiency, particularly in Microsoft Outlook, SharePoint, Word and Excel.
  • Knowledge of IT system administration – experience with the carrying out administrative tasks such as user account creation in Microsoft 365 highly valued
  • Process-driven, with strong attention to detail, accuracy and consistency
  • Ability to deal with a wide range of contacts with professionalism, tact and diplomacy
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Evidence of team working and ability to build strong working relationships
  • Experience working with Salesforce a plus

  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to carry out crucial data cleaning tasks

  • Discretion and confidentiality in handling sensitive issues
  • Right to work in the United Kingdom
