Terre des hommes (Tdh) is the largest Swiss child relief organisation. Since 1960, Tdh has been helping to build a better future for disadvantaged children and their communities through innovative and sustainable solutions. Active in nearly 40 countries, Tdh works with local and international partners to develop and implement projects on the ground that improve the daily lives of more than four million children and members of their communities in the areas of health, protection, and emergency. This commitment is funded by individual and institutional support, with administrative costs kept to a minimum.

General Responsibilities:

Under the hierarchical responsibility of his/her superior, the project manager will manage a project of institutional scope entrusted to him/her according to the project management methodology, from the preparatory phase to the delivery of the final products. This project supports Tdh’s strategy by strengthening the positioning and management capacities of the organisation’s operational partnership approach. It therefore involves dialogue and engagement with a wide variety of stakeholders within the organisation.

To do so, he/she:

1. Ensures the implementation of good practices in its area of responsibility, participates in strategic reflections on Tdh’s positioning about partnership

2. Seeks and proposes practical and appropriate solutions for the organisation in its area of responsibility

3. Participates in the recruitment of staff working in his/her field of specialisation, prepares and administers selection tests for project assistants. 5. Represents his/her department at all times, explains the project and creates the right environment for its realisation and implementation

6. Links Tdh to key networks of actors in its field of specialisation.

7. Reports on the progress of the project.

Specific Responsibilities:

The project manager is responsible for the proper planning, implementation, and accountability of the project as a whole (compliance with targets and quality).

To this end, he/she takes direct responsibility for carrying out several tasks and mobilises the necessary skills and support for certain other tasks, in accordance with Tdh rules, procedures and tools.

His/her specific responsibilities are in Project Cycle Management:

1. Detailed project planning, including details of events, milestones and outputs and all resources to be mobilised

2. Human resources management, in particular: recruitment and management of project assistants (2 part-time people in the field), mobilisation and selection and supervision of complementary expertise when necessary

3. Administrative, logistical, and budgetary management of the project, with the support of the relevant support services

4. Governance of the project; in accordance with the rules laid down in the project finance contract

5. Monitoring, learning and evaluation of the project: development and implementation of the monitoring and learning plan; contribution to project evaluation and learning exercises (capitalisation)

6. Mobilising internal stakeholders, while respecting their constraints and seeking a balance between meeting their needs and those of the project. The project team may thus be called upon to provide technical support in the search for concrete solutions to the field teams (within the scope of the project).

7. Communication, dissemination of intermediate and final project results

8. Change management: the project manager plays a key role in implementing the project results, in collaboration with other internal stakeholders.

Without being an expert in all the fields related to the partnership, the project manager is responsible for proposing relevant analyses and contents on the project topic. Within the framework of the project, he/she will be required to keep abreast of good practices, relevant reflections, and important events on the subject through relevant networking at Swiss and international levels. He/she may be required to represent Tdh in these external relations and will be the key contact person for the financial partner of this project.
