The World Food Programme (WFP) is the leading humanitarian organization saving lives and changing lives, delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with communities to improve nutrition and build resilience. We are currently seeking to fill a Partnership intern position in our Partnership and Donor Relations Unit of the Management Division, based in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Brief Description Of Programme Unit

The selected candidate will be assisting the WFP Partnerships and Donor Relations Unit, under the supervision of the Deputy Country Director, in finalizing the elaboration of the new Partnership Action Plan supporting the Country Strategic Plan for 2023-2027, as well as supporting WFP’s effective positioning with public, private, and external partners to attract policy support, resources, technical assistance and innovative solutions to advance the work of WFP.

Duties And Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director, the candidate will perform the following duties:

  • Assist in the finalization of the new Partnership Action Plan for the upcoming CSP (2023-2027), through research, internal and external consultations, intelligence-gathering, identifying new areas for potential collaboration.
  • Participate and support in the preparation of proposals and reports for private and public donors.
  • Update donors’ information and contribution forecast in corporate system Salesforce in coordination with Budget and Programming and Programme Unit.
  • Preparation of strategic and operational briefs, talking points and other material as needed for Management engagement towards donor community.
  • Participate in the design of strategic partnerships and preparation of material for donors to promote Zero Hunger in Honduras, particularly through private sector, multilateral, and local donor engagement.
  • Support the development and implementation of engagement strategies with current and potential partners, including private sector, academia, civil society, international governments, national government, International Financial Institutions, NGOs, and other UN agencies.
  • Assist in the strengthening of internal processes to facilitate management of donor relations and partnerships.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Qualifications and experience

  • Currently enrolled with at least two years undergraduate studies completed, or recently graduated (within the past six months) ( In the field of international relations and development
  • University course attendance in the past 12 months;
  • Excellent command of English; Working knowledge of Spanish language would be an asset;
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)

Required Soft Skills/WFP Competencies

  • Sound understanding of humanitarian and development concepts, principles with a broad knowledge of best practices, techniques, and processes.
  • Previous experience working on partnerships with private and public sectors.
  • Strong drafting and analytical skills.

Working Languages

Working knowledge of English (proficiency/level C) and Spanish (working knowledge/Level B) are required.

Supervision (Level/Methods of Supervision)

Under the direct supervision of the Deputy Country Director from Honduras, the incumbent will be provided with close mentoring, guidance, and technical supervision. Performance planning and reviews as well as learning and development discussions will be elemental part of the supervision. Honduras Director, will be the second-level supervisor. With the support of a comprehensive induction package and assignment of a buddy/mentor, the intern will rapidly become a productive member of the team.

Training components

Throughout their assignment WFP interns have access to an industry leading learning platform, WeLearn. Depending on opportunities and availability of funds, he/she may participate in WFP workshops or seminars, as appropriate.

Learning Elements

At the end of the assignment, the Intern should: have a good understanding and skills of partnerships and donor relations management in humanitarian contexts, including drafting skills for proposals and reports, as well as the capacity to identify and develop engagement strategies with new donors.

Honduras is in the middle of Central America, limiting to the north and east with the Caribbean Sea; southeast with the Republic of Nicaragua; to the south with the Fonseca Gulf and Republic of El Salvador, and to the west with the Republic of Guatemala.

Honduras has a population of about 9.9 million; its capital city is Tegucigalpa and official language is Spanish.

The official currency of Honduras is Lempiras (Lps), however US Dollars (USD) are accepted in most commercial businesses or restaurants. Credit cards, Visa and Mastercards are also a common way of paying bills. Currency exchange services and ATMs are available at the hotels, shopping malls, gas stations and local banks. The exchange rate fluctuates periodically and may differ from the UN rate.

Electricity system in Honduras is U.S. standard 110- 120 Volts AC.

The climate in Tegucigalpa is subtropical, with average minimum temperatures ranging between 25°C and 30°C, and maximum average temperatures between 30°C and 35°C.

Yellow fever vaccine with at least 10 days in advance before travelling is required, as well as Covid-19 vaccine. Vaccine certification will be requested at the airport. It is recommended to consult your physician before applying it.

Terms And Conditions

  • Interns receive a monthly stipend from WFP up to the maximum amount of US$1000 per month depending on the duty station of assignment.
  • WFP is not responsible for living expenses, arrangements for accommodation, necessary visas and related costs.
  • WFP will reimburse travel ticket for candidates who are nationals of developing countries and are pursuing their studies in their home country.
  • WFP will recognize candidates’ educational credentials from recognized institutions that have been certified by competent international or national authorities such as the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) or Ministries of Education.
  • Candidates who bear any of the following relations to WFP staff members are not eligible to apply: sons, daughters, brothers or sisters.
