Here at Human Appeal we have an exciting opportunity for a Orphans and Child Welfare Officer to join our team based in Cheadle, Greater Manchester (although the role will initially be home-based during Covid-19 restrictions).You will join us on a full-time basis as part of an initial 1-year fixed term contract with a view to progressing into a permanent role. In return, you will receive a competitive salary of £20-24k per annum.

Human Appeal is a faith-based charity that aims to abolish poverty by providing humanitarian aid, sustainable development programs and championing advocacy for our beneficiaries worldwide.

As Orphans and Child Welfare Officer, the successful candidate will report to the Orphans and Child Welfare Manager and play an integral role in the implementation and administration of Human Appeal’s orphan sponsorship programme. We are ideally looking to appoint somebody immediately to this role.

Key duties and responsibilities of the Orphans and Child Welfare Officer:

  • Maintenance and administration of the Orphans Sponsorship Programme including accurate data collection, record-keeping and reporting
  • Maintaining regular and strong communication channels with Human Appeal Field Offices, Local Partners and internal departments including Communications, Donor Care, Finance and Fundraising/Regional Offices to ensure the promotion and smooth running of the Orphan Sponsorship Programme
  • Providing general assistance to the Orphans Manager and to the wider Programmes department including technical expertise and reporting on child welfare projects
  • Supporting the department to achieve year on year increases in the acquisition and retention of donors to the Orphans Sponsorship Programme

What we’re looking for in our Orphans and Child Welfare Officer:

  • A graduate, ideally in a related field, e.g. International Development
  • Proven experience of working in a similar role with an international NGO
  • Proven experience of working in a support role in an office environment
  • Proven experience of g Successfully using analytical and problem solving skills
  • Proven experience of working Writing good quality reports
  • Passion for and knowledge of the international development sector
