Position Overview

An exciting and unique internship opportunity to work closely with key operational staff in a respected UK international development charity; this position has strong vocational content for anyone looking to break into the international development sector with future possibilities of progression into roles within the UK and/or Madagascar.

The post holder will gain experience in international development, understanding and skills across a wide range of duties associated with international operations, communications, volunteer coordination, and practical charity management.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain a rounded experience of how a small NGO operates. The role is varied and there is scope for adapting the particular interests to ensuring that this is a two-way learning experience.

Reporting to: Volunteering and Logistics Officer

Location: Remote

Commitment: Part-time, two days a week for a minimum of six months

Salary: N/A (voluntary)

Responsibilities:

  1. Assist the Volunteering and Logistics Officer in developing and managing the HR and Volunteering management system across the NGO

  2. Playing a key role in supporting the running of the charity’s volunteering programmes, which will include: researching new avenues for marketing; maintaining volunteer databases; correspondence with volunteers and partners; and creative evaluation of materials and resources given to volunteers.

  3. Assisting in recruiting new staff across the NGO

  4. Expanding SEED’s outreach and awareness initiatives

  5. Construction, maintenance and management of equipment inventories and logs

  6. Writing minutes for the monthly international staff meeting

  7. Policy, procedure and project research to advance understand and adherence to international best practice

  8. Supporting social media, newsletter and website information for the organisation’s online presence

  9. Ensure all of SEEDs policies and procedures are evident throughout the work of the department, including those for safeguarding, whistleblowing and anticorruption, and undertake continual training to ensure these are promoted at all times

  10. Any other tasks required by the Volunteer and Logistics Officer in line with the tasks of the post

Desired Knowledge, Experience, and Skills

· Hold or be studying towards an undergraduate degree in or relating to international development (or have equivalent professional/experiential background)

· Knowledge and/or keen interest in development and/or conservation issues facing less developed countries such as Madagascar; previous experience living/working/volunteering in a developing country would be an asset

· Excellent analytical skills and ability to gather and assimilate information from various sources, compile documents (reports and proposals), and identify lessons learnt and best practice

· Be able to organise information systemically and think strategically

· Be able to conduct internet research

· Be able to work both independently and as part of a team

· Strong written English is essential across a range of media forms

· Sound ability to adapt material for different audiences

· Be able to proofread documents to a high standard

· Be willing to take on mundane tasks where necessary

· Have good all-round computing skills and experience in Microsoft Office

· Have ability to successfully manage their time and work to deadlines

· To have a curious mind and a patient, problem solving attitude

· Demonstrate the ability, social skills and confidence to give clear guidance and support to other members of the team in respect of the philosophy and procedures of SEED in order to protect both their safety and the reputation of the NGO.

· Be able to financially support themselves for the duration of their internship as there is no stipend available for travel or sustenance
