Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental organization in the field of migration and works closely with governmental, intergovernmental and non-governmental partners.   1. ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT AND SCOPE:

Under the overall supervision of the Chief of Mission in Thailand and direct supervision of the Project Officer in Emergency and Post-Crisis Unit, the Senior Project Assistant (Psychosocial Support) will be mainly responsible for working with the project team in implementing psychosocial activities for vulnerable migrants in Immigration Detention Centres, Shelters for Children and Families, Welfare Protection Centres for Victims of Trafficking and other locations in Thailand, contributing to the implementation of project activities.

  1. RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Regularly coordinate and communicate with Royal Thai Government at project locations to coordinate on-going psychosocial interventions for vulnerable migrants provided by IOM.
  • Monitor the implementation of psychosocial activities in line with agreed project documents and other project requirements and propose adjustments as necessary.
  • Coordinate with project staff in preparation of needs assessments and pre/post evaluation of special needs cases and individuals, as well as statistical information and reports on the psychosocial assistance provided by IOM.
  • Assist in developing and conducting activities of psychosocial assistance, including art therapy, recreational activities, and informal group discussions, to vulnerable migrants in project locations in coordination with government authorities.
  • Assist in delivering the psychosocial care training for service providers, including to government and non-government counterparts.
  • Coordinate with the project staff in providing monthly reports and result of services provided to the beneficiaries, including psychological needs assessment and pre/post psychological evaluation.
  • Prepare regular updates, programme summaries and other relevant information materials and statistics, according to the specific project needs.
  • Maintain positive relations with local implementing actors and stakeholders for the successful and timely implementation of above-mentioned duties and services.
  • Undertake regular travels within and outside of duty station as may be required for official duties and providing psychosocial services.
  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
  1. REQUIRED QUALIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE

Education:

  • School diploma with six years of relevant experience; of relevant work experience in Psychology, Mental Health, or Social Work. Or,
  • Bachelor’s degree in the field of Psychology or related field or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant work experience in Psychology, Mental Health, or Social Work.

Experience:

  • Experience in liaising with governmental authorities, national / international institutions, United Nations agencies and non-governmental organizations.
  • Experience in working with migrants, refugees, internally displaced persons, victims of trafficking and other vulnerable groups; and,
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.

Skills:

  • In depth knowledge of the broad range of migration related subject areas dealt with by the Organization.
  • Confident user of MS office;
  • High level of integrity, understanding of ethical principles, respect for diversity, ability to work with refugees and migrants from different cultural backgrounds.
  • Teamwork oriented with capacity to work with minimal supervision; and
  • Ability and willingness to work in difficult conditions and travel frequently.

Languages:

  • Fluency in English and Thai are required.
