TITLE: On-call Layout Artists – I-ACT Project

I. ABOUT I-ACT PROJECT
The Initiative for Advancing Community Transformation (“I-ACT”) project is a five-year project implemented by The Asia Foundation (“the Foundation”) with funding from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). I-ACT aims to promote positive changes in public attitudes towards human rights and the rule of law by pioneering and mainstreaming Social and Behavior Change (SBC) as an approach to promote human rights. To achieve scale and sustain impact, the Project will support human rights coalitions, organizations, and communication workers in learning, adopting, and applying SBC in their advocacy strategies and approaches.

As SBC is a novel approach to human rights advocacy, I-ACT is developing knowledge products to introduce and socialize SBC to the Project’s audiences in the form of brochures, manuals, toolkits, papers, etc.

With this, I-ACT is looking for layout artists who can provide graphics design and layout services on an on-call basis.

II. TERMS OF ENGAGEMENT
The consultancy will be on a part-time and on-call basis.

Period of engagement: October 1, 2023 to February 28, 2024

Internal arrangement: Extensive interaction with members of the I-ACT Project, specifically the Project’s Communications Officer

External arrangement: Limited to no interaction with the Foundation’s other Communications contractors and service providers

III. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Contractor will provide professional services related to the conceptualization, design, and layout of knowledge products of the I-ACT Project on an on-call basis. They will be tasked to:

  1. Join conceptualization meetings and work with the assigned program staff as needed;
  2. Conceptualize and design graphic elements for the assigned knowledge product/s;
  3. Conduct basic research and sourcing of graphic elements as needed;
  4. Provide design studies, aligned with the visual identity and brand of the Project;
  5. Layout the assigned knowledge products in the requested digital and print formats, with consideration of accessibility (e.g., readability, color contrast);
  6. Provide mock-ups and advise on print specifications;
  7. Revise and finalize outputs, as requested;
  8. Provide technical advice on improving the quality and appeal of the assigned knowledge product/s; and
  9. Turn over all project files which fall under property of The Asia Foundation after the approval of the laid out products, including:
  • illustrations and icons used
  • Editable files (e.g., Adobe Photoshop or InDesign)
  • High resolution PDF for printing
  • Web version PDF for online distribution

IV. ELIGIBILITY

  • Possesses track record of layout and design of a range of materials, preferably brochures, manuals, and other publications produced for development organizations;
    • Ability to produce outputs under a fast-paced timeline and deliver good quality work in a timely manner; and
  • Experience working with the Foundation (preferred but not required).
