JOB PURPOSE

To provide support to nutrition programmes and activities to contribute to meeting the nutritional needs of WFP beneficiaries

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

  1. Contribute to the development of nutrition interventions, plans and processes, ensuring alignment with wider WFP policies and guidance
  2. Provide project management support to specific and defined nutrition projects and activities, ensuring a coordinated approach with wider programmes/projects that complies with WFP standards and procedures.
  3. Support the development and coordination of data gathering and monitoring/assessment systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained
  4. Track and analyse data to provide input into reporting activities and contribute to the preparation of accurate and timely reporting on nutrition activities that enables informed decision making and consistency of information presented to stakeholders
  5. Provide assistance on the coordination of data gathering and monitoring systems ensuring that rigorous quality standards are maintained.
  6. Liaise with partners (internal and external) to monitor ongoing projects, ensuring effective collaboration, timeliness and efficiency and highlight potential risks to project delivery.
  7. Support the capacity building of WFP staff, partners and national government to prepare for and respond to nutrition needs; for example the production and review of training materials
  8. Provide support to relevant partners that are focusing on food security and nutrition issues to enable sharing of experience, lessons learned and best practice.
  9. Guide and supervise more junior staff, acting as a point of referral and supporting them with analysis and queries.
  10. Act in an assigned emergency response capacity as required to meet emergency food assistance needs.
  11. Other accountabilities as required

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Advanced University Degree in a relevant subject (public health, nutrition, food technology, medicine or other relevant field) or a combination of a first university degree and 1 year of relevant experience.

Experience: At least 1 year of experience in the field.

  • Experience working in public health/food security/nutrition related activities.
  • Experience and/or exposure to implementation of national/international development programmes focused on nutrition outcomes.
  • Experience identifying and defining nutrition issues within Latin American countries.
  • Experience on implementation of nutrition sensitive interventions and school-based programmes is a plus

Languages: Fluency in English and Spanish is required, working knowledge of French is a plus.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQURED

  • Utilizes knowledge of vitamins and nutrients to understand the causes of malnutrition, the relationships between the different types of malnutrition, and is able to articulate the UNICEF conceptual model.
  • Able to appropriately interpret the nutrition situation, analyze primary causes of malnutrition, define limitations to the analysis (e.g. seasonality) and prepare an overview of the food security and nutrition situation in country
  • Ability to analyze how food systems influence the diets of vulnerable groups and identify how and where food systems may contribute to specific nutrient gaps.
  • Leverages nutrition knowledge to provide technical advice to governments to design and implement country nutrition programmes that follow international and WFP agency standards and guidance.

Duration: 12 months.

This position is open to Panamanian citizens.

Fixed-Term appointments are for a continuous period of one year or more and shall have a specified expiration date. The initial appointment is subject to a probationary period of one year.

Successful candidates will be placed in a roster for two (2) years.
