Location: Kinshasa, DRC, with frequent travel to Kasai Oriental Province

Job Description

Forcier is recruiting a Nutrition Expert to lead a proposed USAID/BHA SMART nutrition survey in the DRC. The goal of the SMART nutrition survey is to estimate the nutritional status of children aged 6 to 59 months and the mortality rate of children less than 5 years in the general population in the 3 health zones of Kabeya Kamuanga, Miabi and Tshilundu in the Kasai Oriental Province. S/he will be the focal point for communication of the project with donors, implementing partners and other Forcier staff. We desire a Nutrition expert that is high-skilled and experienced in the conduct of SMART nutritional surveys in the DRC and Eastern Africa. The Nutrition Expert is expected to:

● Design SMART nutritional survey tools adapted to the target health zones

● Developing training manuals on SMART methodologies and lead the training of project staff and partners on SMART nutritional surveys

● Manage the data collection in the three target health zones

● Supervise the cleaning and analysis of data using the SPSS V25 and ENA software

● Ensure quality assurance, quality control, and management of all project deliverables

● Maintain a macro-level understanding of project objectives, client expectations, contractual obligations and deliverables, and management priorities with the overall objective of balancing human resources, staff workload, budget, timeline and resource management.

● Prepare the final report and present it to external stakeholders including the donor and the Nutrition sector work group.

Forcier is dedicated to building the capacity of researchers in the DRC and as part of this role you will have the opportunity to work alongside specialists and receive training that will enhance your skills in research, monitoring & evaluation, and project management. This position will require travel to field locations within the DRC up to 85% of the time of the contract.

Requirements

  • A graduate degree in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Sciences, Statistics, Anthropology or a similar domain

  • Congolese nationality is required

  • At least 5 years of experience in the coordination and organization of SMART nutritional surveys

  • Experience in socio-economic studies in the area of health, nutrition, and food security

  • Solid knowledge in statistics and analysis of data with a familiarity with the SMART methodology and mastery of the SPSS V25, ENA for SMART, January 11 2020 version software

  • Proven ability in the design of tools and the statistical treatment of SMART nutrition survey data

  • Ability to develop training manuals for enumerators and the survey supervisors and to organised and perform the training of enumerators

  • Excellent French language and local languages skills with the ability to write high-quality study reports in French

  • Work experience in the DRC is compulsory

  • Excellent aptitude in the writing of reports and presentations

  • Excellent knowledge and experience in humanitarian principles and directives

  • Ability to work effectively with a multi-cultural and inter-sectoral environment and working in a team

  • Ability to coordinate, lead and supervise others to achieve a common goal
