The Opportunity – Nutrition Coordinator (Gaza)

Post location: Gaza Field Office – Rafah and subject to change based on SC priorities and response in Gaza.

Contract Duration and Level of Effort: until 31st December 2024, with a possibility of extension based on available funds.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The Nutrition Coordinator will support direct SCI nutrition programming and SCI implementing partners in the effective delivery of the IYCF-E and CMAM program ensuring the effective implementation of IYCF-E and CMAM activities in Save the Children’s operational areas in Gaza.

SCOPE OF ROLE:

Reports to: Health & Nutrition Programme Manager

Staff reporting to this post: Nutrition Counsellors, Nutrition Officers

KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:

  • Prepare and oversee Nutrition programme implementation to ensure timely delivery of programme activities (for example, monitoring against log frames, individual performance management workplans).
  • Ensure that all SCI and SCU partner staffs understand and implement program guidelines when assessing the mother child pair and advise the best feeding options and follow-up as appropriate.
  • Develop weekly work plans for the CMAM, mother-baby areas (e.g. Baby Tents, etc.) with the IYCF-E, nutrition Counsellors and appropriate SCI partner staffs.
  • Compile weekly activity partner plans and reports for outreach and each mother-baby area as required.
  • Identify Nutrition programme supplies needs and coordinate with supply team to put in place a sensible phased procurement plan.
  • Carry out visits to field sites to review/ monitor/ evaluate ongoing activities and provide on-the-job coaching, mentoring and action planning.
  • Prepare timely programme and donor reports on project activities in compliance with internal SCI requirements and any relevant external donor requirements.
  • Working closely with the Accountability lead to put in place sector accountability mechanisms, ensuring that feedback is incorporated into programme design and learning disseminated to the wider Nutrition sector.

Capacity Building:

  • With support from the Nutrition and Health PM, Nutrition and Health TA, develop learning needs assessment and capacity building plans for partner staff, linking capacity building initiatives to wider opportunities identified via coordination and networks.
  • With support from Nutrition and Health PM the backstop, build the capacity, knowledge, understanding and confidence of field teams and partners to achieve the required quality standards in Nutrition work by developing, adapting, and sharing relevant tools, designing training modules and supporting the implementation and understanding of quality benchmarks including on the job technical mentoring.

Representation & Advocacy & communication:

  • Represent SCI-oPt at Nutrition coordination platforms, sharing ideas, updates.
  • Facilitate cross-sectoral programming, particularly to promote communication and referral between IYCF-E, CMAM and CP and MHPSS
  • Pro-actively identify advocacy opportunities, case studies and research opportunities which link with wider organisational strategic objectives and turn these into action.

In order to be successful, you will bring/have:

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS

ESSENTIAL:

  • BSc in Nutrition/Dietician, Public Health, Nursing, or other relevant qualification
  • 4+ years of previous experience of working in infant and young child feeding
  • Proven ability to supervise, train and mentor staff on Nutrition related topics, in particular IYCF-E
  • Communication abilities with SCI partners
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; Able to articulate ideas and concepts clearly verbally
  • and in writing.
  • Experience with budget management
  • Politically and culturally sensitive with qualities of patience, tact, and diplomacy
  • A high level of written and spoken English.
  • Willingness and ability to be flexible in the face of difficult and frustrating working conditions.
  • Commitment to the aims and principles of SC. A good understanding of the SC mandate and child
  • focus and an ability to ensure this continues to underpin our support.

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience of working with NGO
  • Experience in emergency response
