Direct Supervisor: Human Resource for Health Project Manager

Administrative reporting: Area Manager – North Darfur

Coordination: Operations team and Health, Nutrition and WASH sectors Teams

Location: Based in El-Fasher, North Darfur, Sudan

SUMMARY:

The Nursing & Midwifery School Capacity Building Specialist will be responsible for building capacity of national tutors and students at the Academic Health Science (AHS) . She/He will ensure that the teaching materials and lectures of hight standard, will support the tutors during teaching activities and will monitor and support the students during practical activities in health facilities.

This position is based in North Darfur at AHS and will be reporting to Human Resource for Health Project Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Support Academic Health Science to train students using standard national education curriculums and facilitate related academic reviews and reforms at the institute.
  • Identify training needs of national tutors and develop a plan for their capacity building through formal training, mentorship and coaching.
  • Support operational research, assessments and situation analysis to identify challenges of Human Resource for Health (HRH) and appropriate measures for improvement in North Darfur.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to develop strategies to increase training accessibility for students, with special focus on gender matters.
  • Support State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and AHS administration team in the designing and evaluating academic curriculums in order to improve course content, student progressive assessments, and quality of tutoring.
  • Plan and coordinate student placement for clinical training in healthcare facilities and make a follow up to see how the student are performing in those facilities.
  • Contribute to the scheduling and planning of the monthly project work plans, spending plans, budget reviews at the AHS institute.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with project partners.
  • Maintain appropriate, regular, transparent and supportive communication with RI team, local authorities, including SMOH, NGOs and UN agencies technical sections.
  • When necessary and in coordination with DCD of programs, provide expertise to Sexual and Reproductive activities across RI supported projects across Sudan.
  • Act as Human Resource of Health Project Manager in the absence of the Project Manager.
  • Representation/coordination with external actors
  • Represent RI at sector working groups, coordination meetings as well during other stakeholder meetings (if relevant), and maintain a positive, continuous and visible presence for RI.
  • Ensure RI’s mandate is shared and explained to relevant stakeholders.
  • Pro-actively liaise and build rapport with local officials, community representatives, UN agencies, and any other relevant stakeholders
  • Attend health cluster and other coordination meetings, sexual reproductive health TWG meeting, physically in the state.
  • Attend health virtually health & Sexual Reproductive Health coordination meetings held at national level.

Logistics

·Liaise, as necessary, with the programs, procurement and supply chain, logistics and finance staff to ensure items are procured, transported, stored, managed and accounted for correctly.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor of Nursing or Midwifery or Bachelor of Sexual and Reproductive Health. Master’s Degree in Public Health or in Maternal & Child Health or in Sexual & Reproductive Health
  • Having worked as Sexual and Reproductive Health Advisor in an international organization and in emergency response.
  • Minimum 10 years of demonstrated experience as a tutor in a Midwifery school, contributing to human resource for health.
  • Experience in capacity building of staff, coaching and mentorship.
  • Strong knowledge in planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluating projects.
  • Good communication skills; fluent English is required
  • Understanding of local civil society organizations development.
