NTS Surveyor

Function prerequisite:

The NTS surveyor purpose is to conduct surveys to assess level, type and impact of ERW/IEDs/landmine contamination and report on the findings, to link with local communities in support of clearance activities, and to conduct EORE as needed.

Responsibilities:

In accordance with the NTS Standard Operating Procedures, national guidelines for NTS and the NTS activity plan the NTS Surveyor will undertake NTS and provide EORE in designated communities performing the following tasks: 

• Work within the framework of NPA core values
• Act as an ambassador for NPA, through professionalism and conduct
• Adhere to all NPA policies, regulations and procedures
• Conduct NTS in designated communities/areas;
• Function as interviewer during assessments of targeted communities; 
• Function as data collector in targeted communities;
• Function as community liaison between stakeholders/actors;
• Conduct EORE in targeted communities;
• Maintain good communication with partner organisations;
• Maintain good relationships with other mine action interventions in the area including those involved in survey, marking and clearance to ensure good coordination and shared knowledge;
• Identified Hazards areas, IEDs and ERW
• Use handheld GPS, take coordinates
• Use compass, take compass bearings
• Drawing of maps
• Measuring distances on the ground
• Generating IMSMA reports
• Submitting Reports in S123
• Any other business as required by NPA.

Required qualifications:

Education:

Desirable:

• A university degree preferably in sociology/social sciences/teaching
• Experience from working with teaching/education/social work

• Demining/BAC course
• Survey/NTS/Community Liaison course

Experience:

Desirable:

• Experience in working with Mine Action
• Prefer to have an experience.

Other qualifications:

• Verbal proficiency in Arabic and good I English
• Good interpersonal skills
• Good communication and understanding skills
• Able to work effectively under stressful situations, & adapt to, difficult conditions
• Willingness & ability to travel within the country.
